Triple A

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees lost to Charlotte Knights by a score of 5-0. Starting for Scranton was Dan Giese and he gave up 1 earned run on 5 hits in 6 innings of work for the loss. His era for the year now stands at 1.38. Replacing Giese to start the 7th inning was David Robertson and he gave up 2 earned runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. Following Robertson was Steven Jackson and he gave up 2 earned runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. The hitting star of the game worth mentioning for Scranton was left-fielder Matt Carson who went 2 for 4.

Double A

The Trenton Thunder DOMINATE the Erie SeaWolves by a score of 9-5. The Thunder had 17 hits in this game. Starting for the Trenton Thunder was George Kontos and he gave up 3 earned runs on 5 hits in 5 innings of work along with, ready for this, 11 strike outs for the win. That’s a lot of strike outs. Replacing Kontos to start the 6th inning was Michael Gardner and he gave up 1 earned run on 1 hit along with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks in 2 innings. Eric Wordekemper pitched the 8th and 9th inning for his 5th save of the year. He gave up 1 run on 3 hits but the run he gave up was unearned because of a fielding error by third baseman Chris Malec. The hitting stars of the game for Trenton were basically the whole team. Every batter got a hit and scored a run. The ones I’ll choose to mention are first baseman Cody Ehlers, right fielder Jose Tabata and second baseman Kevin Russo. Ehlers went 1 for 4 with 1 run scored and 2 rbi’s along with a big, juicy, I can’t believe how far the ball went, home, run, BOMB! Tabata went 3 for 4 with 1 run scored and 1 rbi. Russo went 2 for 3 with 1 run scored and 1 rbi along with a huuuuuuuge, home, run, SHOT!

A Adv.

The Tampa Yankees beat the Jupiter Hammerheads by a score of 3-2 because of a walk off home run by left-fielder Tim Battle. Starting for Tampa was pitching sensation Eric Hacker and he only pitched 2 innings of 2 hit ball along with 2 strike outs. Replacing Hacker to start the third inning was Stephen Artz and he gave up 2 runs but 1 run was unearned because of a throwing error by first baseman Kevin Smith. He pitched 2 innings and gave up 2 hits. Mark Melancon pitched a scoreless 5 and 6th inning giving up 3 hits. Wilkins Arias pitched a perfect 7th, 8th and 9th inning for the win along with 5 strikeouts. The hitting stars of the game for Tampa were right-fielder Andres Perez and left-fielder Tim Battle. Perez went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored and Battle went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored and 2 rbi’s along with the game breaker, the game changer, walk, off, home, run, hurt your feelings type of shot, mean spirited, BAHHHHHHHMB!!!

Class A

The Charleston RiverDogs won a very close game over the Hickory Crawdads by a score of 5-4. Starting for the RiverDogs was Dellin Betances and he gave up 3 earned runs on 3 hits in 5.2 innings of work for the win. He walked 7 batters. Wilkins De La Rosa followed Betances and gave up no runs on no hits in 2.1 innings. Jonathan Ortiz pitched the 9th inning for his 9th save of the season giving up 1 earned run on 2 hits. Ortiz almost lost the game but a nice saving catch and throw by third baseman Brandon Laird to first baseman Wady Rufino foiled the Crawdads. The hitting stars of the game worth mentioning for the RiverDogs were center fielder Abraham Almonte and left-fielder Austin Krum. Almonte went 3 for 5 with 1 run scored and 1 rbi. Krum went 1 for 4 with 1 run scored and 3 rbi’s along with a big, mean spirited, home, run, SHOT! This is the longest consecutive road win for the RiverDogs in 5 years which is 9 games.
