Triple A

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees won on a walk off walk to beat the Charlotte Knights by a score of 5-4 in 11 innings. Starting for Scranton was Jeffrey Marquez and he gave up 3 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings of work for the no decision but 2 runs were unearned because of a throwing error by himself and a throwing error by right fielder Gregory Porter. Replacing Marquez to start the 7th inning was David Robertson and he pitched 2 scoreless innings. Billy Traber followed Marquez and he gave up 1 earned run in .1 of an inning. Scott Strickland followed Traber and he blew the game by letting Traber’s run score but won the game by pitching 2.2 innings giving up 2 hits in 2.2 innings. The hitting stars of the game worth mentioning for Scranton were left-fielder Justin Christian who walked for the rbi that won the game and second baseman Bernie Castro. Christian went 0-3 with 2 rbi’s and Castro went 1 for 3 with 1 rbi.

Double A

The Trenton Thunder dominated the Erie SeaWolves by a score of 7-2. Starting for the Trenton Thunder was Jason Jones and he gave up 2 earned runs on 5 hits in 5 innings of work for the win. Replacing Jones to start the 6th inning was Anthony Claggett and he gave up no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. Joshua Schmidt pitched a scoreless 9th inning giving up no hits. There were 3 big hitting stars of the game for Trenton and they were second baseman Kevin Russo, left-fielder Edwar Gonzalez and third baseman Carlos Mendoza. Russo went 1 for 4 with 3 runs scored. Gonzalez went 2 for 5 with 3 rbi’s and Mendoza went 3 for 4 with 3 rbi’s.

A Adv.

The Tampa Yankees won a close game over the Brevard County Manatees by a score of 4-2. Starting for Tampa was Alfredo Aceves and he gave up 1 earned run on 1 hit in 5.1 innings of work along with 6 strikeouts for the win. Replacing Aceves in the 6th inning was Mark Melancon and he gave up 1 run on 2 hits in 2.1 innings but the run he gave up was unearned because of a fielding error by second baseman Damon Sublett. Following Melancon was Edgar Soto and he gave up no runs on 1 hit in .2 of an inning. Pitching the last two outs of the game was Josue Selenes and he gave up no runs and no hits. The hitting stars of the game worth mentioning for Tampa were second baseman Damon Sublett, right-fielder Josue Calzado and DH James Cooper. Sublett went 2 for 3 with 1 run scored. Calzado went 1 for 4 with 2 runs scored and Cooper went 3 for 3 with 1 rbi and a walk and is batting .366.

Class A

The Charleston RiverDogs won a close game over the Asheville Tourists by a score of 7-6 in 13 innings. Starting for the RiverDogs was Jason Stephens and he pitched a great game giving up no runs on 3 hits in 5 innings of work. Replacing Stephens to start the 6th inning was Wilkins De La Rosa and he did not have a good outing giving up 3 earned runs on 4 hits in 1.2 innings. Following De La Rosa was Chace Vacek and he pitched a perfect 1.1 innings. Jonathan Ortiz came in the 9th inning and blew the game by giving up a home run. He pitched 2 innings and gave up 1 earned run on 3 hits. The RiverDogs took the lead in the top of the 12th but the Tourists tied the game again in the bottom of the 12th because Casey Erickson blew the game giving up 2 earned runs on 3 hits in 3 innings but wound up with the win. Erickson started the 11th inning.

The hitting stars of the game for the RiverDogs were catcher Jesus Montero, left-fielder Taylor Holiday and first baseman Brian Baisley. Montero went 3 for 6 with 2 runs scored with 2 rbi’s along with a big, juicy, hurt your feelings type of, home, run BAHHHHHHMB!!! It was solo home run that won the game in the top of the 13th. Holiday went 1 for 4 with 2 rbi’s and Baisley went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored. When a minor league team ties the game in the late innings, you can forget about going to bed on time because there’s not much skill in the minor league level like in the pro level and it drove me crazy tonight because the game ended around 12:42 AM in the morning and this game started at 7:05 PM.
