Report: A-Rod to Yankees: $350 mil or bust
Published 11/2/2007 by Tony Gicas at Bronx Liaison
... On the other hand, Bobby Abreu will remain a Yankee for at least one more year, barring a trade of some sort, as the Yankees reportedly picked up his option today for the 2008 season. This is a no-brainer. A Miguel Cabrera deal would have made things interesting, but New York cannot be dumb enough to part with Phil Hughes or Joba Chamberlain for anything less than Johan Santana. Plus, Cabrera's a free agent in two years. ...

No one in the league can afford to pay A-Rod that much and put even a AAA roster on the field around him but the Yankees. He may get the money, but he's going to get it to play for a bad team with zero ...

Published 11/3/2007 by Nick the Greek at Home Run Derby
The Yankees have taken their stand with A-Rod. No way they will deal with him now that he has opted out of his contract, costing the Yanks their $21MM subsidy from the Texas Rangers. Yesterday, however, the Yankees picked up the 2008 contract option on Bobby Abreu at the low, low price of $16MM . This, of course, begs the question. If Bobby Abreu is worth $16MM/season to the Yankees, is $30MM/season for A-Rod unreasonable? I say no. Take a look at the numbers. Player AVG HR RBI SLG OPS The data clearly shows, as most would expect, that A-Rod has a much better season than ...
