Wahoo! What a great deal by Cashman:
The Yankees agreed Friday evening to a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates that would give New York left-handed pitcher Damaso Marte and right fielder Xavier Nady.
The Pirates will receive right-handed pitcher Ross Ohlendorf, right-handed pitcher George Kontos, left-handed pitcher Phil Coke and right fielder Jose Tabata in return. The trade is tentative pending physicals.

The Pirates have traded Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte to the Yankees for a package of four players.
The Pirates get righty Ross Ohlendorf, righty George Kontos, lefty Phil Coke and right fielder Jose Tabata in return. Ohlendorf hasn’t been very impressive in a touch over 60 career ML innings of work. Kontos is a power pitcher, striking out nearly a batter per inning at AA. Coke made his AA debut this year at age 25. Tabata, by all accounts, is the centerpiece of the deal. Tabata is from Venezuela and at age 19 (hopefully he isn’t really ...

Highway robbery. Period. I can't believe no other team could top this offer. Keith Law had this to say about the deal: Whether or not it was the best deal available -- one front-office exec told me tonight that he felt that the return was "a joke" -- at least it's a completed deal and a sign that the Pirates are serious about rebuilding.
