Yankees To Sign Richie Sexson
Published 7/17/2008 by Tim Dierkes at MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Yankees reached a tentative agreement with first baseman Richie Sexson. The idea is that Sexson will improve the team's performance against left-handed pitching.
There's little risk, so you can't blame Brian Cashman for the move. However, it should be noted that Sexson didn't hit lefties much ...
Yanks Agree With Sexson
Published 7/17/2008 by Mr. Fleece at MLB FLEECE FACTOR: Providing MLB rumors and deciding who gets FLEECED.
According to Buster Olney of ESPN, the New York Yankees have agreed in principle to a deal with former Mariners’ first baseman Richie Sexson. Sexson had been released by the Mariners last week. He has had two terrible seasons for the Mariners, and was hitting just .218 with only 30 RBI thus far in 2008. In 2007, Sexson batted only .205, with 21 homers.
I think this is actually a very good gamble for New York. Sexson is hitting just .218, but still mashes against left-handed pitching (.344). He can form a platoon at first base with Jason Giambi, and give manager Joe Girardi a right-handed option off the bench. They were willing to just Duncan a try ...

Looks like this signing crosses the Yankees off the short list of possibly trading partners for the services of Mark Teixeira, unless, of course, Sexson lays an egg for a week in New York. ...
Sexson tentatively to the Yankees

According to Buster Olney of espn.com (click here for the article) Richie Sexson wasn’t without a job for long. The former Seattle Mariner has reportedly ”reached a tentative agreement” with the New York Yankees. Sexson has struggled overall this season, hitting .218 with 11 HR overall, but he has exelled against left-handed pitching, something the Yankees needed. In 61 AB, he’s hit .344 with 5 HR and 12 RBI. It will be interesting to see how the Yankees use him, but I would guarantee that he’ll be in the line-up anytime the Yankees face a southpaw. Still, given his overall numbers and the logjam of DH types the Yankees already have, I wouldn’t look to him for ...
Yanks Sign Sexson
Published 7/17/2008 by Greg Cohen (noreply@blogger.com) at Sliding Into Home: A Yankees Blog
From ESPN: The New York Yankees have reached a tentative agreement with Richie Sexson, who was released by the Seattle Mariners a week ago. Sexson fits in New York because the Yankees needed a right-handed slugger to match up against left-handed pitching -- and Sexson had a .344 average against lefties this year. Assuming the deal is completed, he'll be in the lineup Saturday against Oakland. The Yankees will only have to pay Sexson the prorated minimum of $390,000 from his $14 million salary with the Mariners. Seattle is eating the remainder of the nearly $6 million Sexson is owed for the season. They really have nothing ...
