... Peter Abraham notes that the Yankees renewed Joba Chamberlain’s contract at the $390,000 Major League miminum and wonders if the team couldn’t have found a few more grand to kick back to the kid. At the same time, Abraham notes that baseball is a business, and the Yanks were well within their rights to renew Joba’s contract. That’s where I land on this issue. Also on Joba, Mike Mussina thinks Joba is more valuable to the team ...

... (Baltimore Sun), the pre-arb players -- those with not enough experience time to qualify for salary arbitration -- aren't getting what they want. (They certainly aren't. The Yankees, writes Peter Abraham on his LoHud Yankees Blog, even held the line on Joba Chamberlain, giving him ''not one penny of credit for what he did last season.'' ...

... him for a long time; he works as hard as anyone," said Derek Jeter, who has worked with Thomson since 1993. "He's always prepared, always positive; he's a lot of fun to be around. I'm excited for him. It's well-deserved." "He's earned the right," Cashman said. "We all talk about the emergence of the young players on our roster, but we have an emergence of our coaching staff from the minors on this roster as well. Rob Thomson is a product of that, as are Dave Eiland and Kevin Long." Joba Chamberlian re-upped with the Yanks too. He'll earn $390,000. Random thought...Last week, I ...
