Instead, pitching to new Yankees catcher Chris Stewart, a Triple A call up making his first start, Hughes and Stewart seemed to get their signals crossed for the third time in the game and Hughes threw a wild pitch - not in front of the plate, or in the dirt, but, startlingly enough, off the middle of Stewart’s chest protector as a surprised Stewart couldn’t even get a glove on the ball. ...

... a trip to the minors could help salvage Hughes's season. Johnette Howard thinks Hughes looks "too rattled to stay." Clearly, the abuse he's taking from opposing lineups is taking at least a mental (if not physical) toll on the youngster. We'd agree, Hughes looks a bit rattled on the mound, but at the same time, he's handling everything with great maturity. If Hughes continues to get pounded at the major league level, perhaps a chance to catch his breath in Scranton would do him some good in the long term. Joel Sherman ...

After the shaky way he performed again last night, Yankees' starter Phil Hughes is officially on the clock now.
The bad news keeps coming for the Yankees. Alex Rodriguez has been placed on the disabled list. He has a Grade 2 quadriceps strain. And now we are left to wonder exactly how many grades their are.
