55-45 Against
YankeesRedSox.com —
Those are the odds against the Yankees signing Andy Pettitte according to a story in today's Daliy News. I go back and forth on this one. On one hand, I look at the Yankees rotation and other than Sabathia and Wang who else do you think will pitch 200 innings? (Sorry, I just don't think you can be positive Burnett will.) Pettitte provides that at a decent ERA. But, you also have to look at his second half (13 starts 5.35 ERA) and wonder if he has that ability in him. And, for $10 million, couldn't you find a cheaper ...

... said on condition of anonymity. "Most (Yankee executives) are thinking of another direction." Still, the door is not closed on Pettitte, and there likely won't be any permanent decision by the Yankees on his future until the new year. A one-year, $10 million offer from the Yanks is still in effect. Several Yankee officials, including Hal Steinbrenner, are on vacation, and the team's offices are scheduled to be closed through New Year's. Source: New York Daily News ...
Andy's Last Chance?
YFSF —
... A number of articles have been written about the dimming chances of an Andy Pettitte return now that the Yanks landed another high-priced free agent. The ubiquitous anonymous sources are doing a fine job of pissing leaking the Yanks' supposed real thinking about the Pettitte negotiations to beat reporters. Anthony McCarron's latest article has one such leaker saying that the chances are 55-45 against the big lefty's return. Interestingly, this same article mentions that the Yanks' 1-year, $10 million offer is still on the table. ...

We still need Andy
Pinstripe Alley —
... The offer of $10 million for Andy Pettitte is still 'on the table', but a Yankee official says there's only about a 50% chance that he takes it. Otherwise, it will be Phil Hughes in the five spot. I'm anxious to see Hughes over the course of a whole season (knock on wood), but we still need Andy for several reasons - ...
Offer Still Stands, But Yanks Ready To Go With Hughes
Sliding Into Home: A Yankees Blog —
Last night I asked you guys who you thought should be the Yankees fifth starter. So far Andy Pettitte is out to an early lead in the poll to the left. Here's an update on the Pettitte story. From Anthony McCarron: Before the Yankees signed Mark Teixeira, they told Andy Pettitte's camp that the pitcher's chances of rejoining the Bombers would be in jeopardy if they signed another big free agent. Now that the Yanks have landed their new first baseman, the odds of Pettitte being a Yankee next year are "55-45 against," according ...

Pettitte still has an offer
N/A —
Anthony McCarron reports that a deal is still on the table for pitcher Andy Pettitte from the Yankees:
Now that the Yanks have landed their new first baseman, the odds of Pettitte being a Yankee next year are “55-45 against,” according to a baseball official familiar with the Yanks’ plans.
“It’s less likely” that Pettitte returns, the official said on condition of anonymity. “Most (Yankee executives) are thinking of another direction.”

Andy Pettitte’s offer is still on the table. Are the Yankees shifting towards Hughes?
Zell's Pinstripe Blog —
Andy Pettitte still has a $10MM offer from the Yankees for 2009 according to Anthony McCarron of the New York Daily News. After landing Mark Teixeira, a baseball official close to the Yankees has said the odds of Pettitte being a Yankee next year are “55-45 against.” The official said that the Yankees may turn to Phil Hughes to fill his spot in the rotation. The Yankees still think highly of Hughes, but they just seem frustrated about the injuries he has had the past two seasons. They haven’t given up on him though. So you may very well see him in the rotation come ...
Life After Pettitte
Beyond the Box Score —
... Obviously, with only two pitches, you have to mix it up. It is hard to take this guy seriously as a starter - how can he be expected to attempt a third trip around a line-up on a regular basis? But he looks like a good guy to have on the pen, and handy in an emergency.
Phil Hughes is the obvious guess for the job. He's not only a well known baseball card collector - he's also a Yankees prospect.
Hughes struck out 38 in 30 innings in the Arizona Fall League in 2008. He also walked 13 and hit 3 batters, ...
