No big surprise, here. Bobby was a great #3 hitter that worked counts and showed his cleanup hitter a lot of pitches. With the younger outfielders a year or two away, a 1-year deal was perfect for the Yankees, given the situation. No reason to block anyone by signing an expensive 5 to 7 year deal for a free agent like Rowand, Jones, or Hunter. Bobby works well here and they certainly need the offense with third base suddenly vacated. Source
