Acoording to a report in the New York Times, Yankees catcher Jorge Posada's season might be in jeopardy after the pain in his right shoulder flared up again following Satursday's game against the Cleveland Indians. Posada will leave the team following the game on Sunday and see Dr. James Andrews to have the shoulder evaluated by the esteemed orthopedist. Posada has already seen Andrews once this season and at that time the Doctor told him that while he does have a tear in his subscapularis muscle, that surgery was not necessary. According to the New York Times, Jorge Posada will be placed on the disabled list for the first time in his career. Posada continues to experience shoulder problems, and he plans to once again visit Dr. James Andrews in regards to this issue. He had visited with Andrews, who had reviewed the result of his MRI, and previously said surgery would not be necessary. The problem has not gotten better, however. The previous test result revealed a tear in his subscapularis muscle.

UPDATE: (4/30) 9:20am (EST) - After another visit with Dr. James Andrews, it was determined that Posada will likely return to actionthis season. Another MRI revealed no new injury to Posada’s shoulder, so the 36-year old catcher simply has to rest the injury and hope for the best.

Another Labrum Tear for Posada

Jorge Posada now is revealing that he has a torn labrum in his right shoulder that will require offseason surgical repair. Posada had surgery on the same shoulder in November 2001 to repair a small tear in the labrum.
So much for the early MRI reports and diagnoses from various Doctors.
This, after having been diagnosed earlier in the year with a "strained shoulder" , then a "tear in his Subscapularis muscle" , then rotator cuff tendonitis. There was never any talk about structural damage to the shoulder with any of the earlier reports.
