Yankees to call up Gardner Links5
According to an article in his hometown paper , the Yankees have called up OF Brett Gardner. A second source confirmed it at 1 a.m. Gardner was at .287/412/.429 through 80 games for Scranton. He had three homers, 29 RBI and 34 stolen bases. It’s too late to call Brian Cashman for further information on this. That will come later today. It’s uncertain what the corresponding ... [link]

Brett Gardner’s speed arrives in the Bronx. According to Pete Abraham and Chad Jennings, the Yanks have called up Brett Gardner. Now I’d like to see how they are going to USE him. Don’t pull a Britton on him. How Girardi uses him is going to be interesting. Gardner was hitting .287-3-29 with 34 steals for SWB. He had 11 doubles and 10 triples. He did have 68 strikeouts (one reason some bloggers are down on him) but what they don’t mention are the 61 walks (or, 60 more than Wilson Betemit ...

Yankees' move to improve

... I watched him play a lot in spring training and at Scranton a few weeks ago. There’s a chance he’ll get overmatched. But there’s also a chance he’ll add a burst of energy into the offense. I would imagine he’s coming up to play, otherwise they’re stunting his development." Here's a scouting report from Baseball Prospectus: " ...

Gardner’s time is now

I love Melky Cabrera’s energy, his enthusiasm, his throwing arm, his defense in center field. I love the fact that he is a young, home grown Yankee. I just don’t know how much longer I can tolerate having him in the lineup every day. Cabrera’s batting average has fallen to .246, and he doesn’t hit with enough power (7 home runs), steal enough bases (6) or draw enough walks (.312 OBP) to justify continuing to play every day. That is why it is great news that Brett Gardner will be joining the Yankees today. Gardner, 24, is a speedster who has drawn ...

Yanks to Call Up Top Prospect
Published 6/30/2008 by Nick Scala (noreply@blogger.com) at Mets Prospects Minors Blog | MetsProspectus.com
... Peter Abraham is reporting that the New York Yankees are calling up outfielder Brett Gardner from Triple-A Scranton. He was hitting .287 with 3 home runs, 29 RBI's and 34 stolen bases. As you can tell by his stats he is a speedster with not much power. Some were calling for him over Justin Christian, but they may be on the team together if Alberto Gonzalez is demoted or switch places.

While we don’t know the corresponding move, word is that the Yanks have promoted Brett Gardner. Thanks to everyone who sent us the tip. It would have gone up earlier, but today is not the best day for the RAB crew. Anyway, I would imagine Alberto is safe, since Betemit is getting the call at DH in Matsui’s place. Girardi says they still plan to carry three catchers, though that ...
