... most of the time. Kat O'Brien reports: An ESPN.com report Friday said, "Chamberlain is likely to start next season in the Yankees' bullpen as part of the team's effort to limit his innings" if the other five starters are healthy and performing. However, Cashman, Newman, senior vice president Hank Steinbrenner and pitching coach Dave Eiland said Friday that the plan is to have Chamberlain in the rotation. "We plan to have him go into spring training as a starter," Cashman said. Said Steinbrenner: "At this ...

The Yankee news is a bit scatterbrained today, so here's a quick rundown. Kat O'Brien authored a follow-up entry to the idea of how the Yanks will try and limit the innings of the three kids in 2008. She spoke with VP of Baseball Operations Mark Newman, who stated, "Maxed-out innings are going to be an issue for all of them, all of the young ones. ... in spring training, with Chien-Ming Wang, Andy Pettitte and Mike Mussina likely to fill the other three rotation slots. But not one of the young trio was at or near the 200-inning mark in 2007. That means it will require careful watch to keep them in the rotation (if they earn it) without raising their innings an alarming amount. "All of our players will have [innings] objectives," general manager Brian Cashman said by phone Friday. (Newsday) This obviously means Chamberlain will head to the bullpen, ...

Yanks done with Santana? Joba to the pen after all?
Published 12/26/2007 by Jim Johnson at The Bronx Block
According to Kat O’Brien from Newsday, Santana going to the Yankees appears to be “not likely”. However, this comes after O’Brien reported that Joba will start in the rotation and then issuing a report that seems to contradict the first. So is Joba going to start in the bullpen or starting rotation? Olney says bullpen. O’Brien said rotation, then kind of seemed to backtrack. So were I a gambling man, I’d say he’s starting the year in the pen. As I’ve said before, I’d prefer to have an ...
