That's One Way To Keep Phil's Innings Down
Published 4/14/2008 by Brian at Depressed Fan
2 innings tonight for the rook. That's 5 innings total over his last two starts. Not quite the quick start we'd been hoping for. By the way, sitting Melky and starting Damon in center has cost the Yanks at least 1 run so far (Manny scoring from second on a single up the middle), you can make an argument for 2 (J.D. Drew scoring on a sac fly) or 3 (Damon doesn't back up on the Ellsbury stolen base when the ball goes into center field).
Boston Beats Yanks in Battle of Attrition

... Phil Hughes was terrible, the offense left a small village on the basepaths and Joe Girardi continues to perplex as the BoSox defeated the Yanks 8-5 at Fenway. This game was an exercise in frustration from beginning to end and it drops the Bombers to 6-7 on the season. ...
Bullpen Bails Out Matsuzaka in 8-5 Win Over Yanks

... the first time that I can remember the Red Sox not having to face Mariano Rivera. Like this weekend was, that’s usually a good sign. Youk’s best friend Joba Chamberlain also didn’t appear in the 3-game set.
After the game the Red Sox flew to Cleveland where they will take on the Indians tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM and Jon Lester will toe the rubber against Jake Westbrook.

And That Happened

... Red Sox 8, Yankees 5, game time 3:55: I turned this one on at 8pm. The first inning ended at 8:44, and the rest of the game wasn't all that lickety split either. Dice K gets walks 6 and throws 116 pitches in 5 innings. That's good enough to get the win, though, given Phil Hughes' 2 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, and 3 BB. His ERA now up to 9.00. You just can't count on young pitching. ...
