BOSTON -- The Yankees moved on Friday to upgrade their club for a push at the postseason, acquiring outfielder Xavier Nady and left-handed reliever Damaso Marte from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for four Minor Leaguers. Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte, two of the biggest remaining prizes in the baseball trade market, are New York Yankees. I guess that answers the question of whether or not the surging the Yankees would go all in to try and make the playoffs in Yankee Stadium’s final season. Chalk up a win for GM Brian Cashman here. He got the outfielder most contending teams wanted and a quality lefty setup guy without giving up much. First off, I really like this trade. I think the Yankees got two very good players to boost a club that has already shown that they have what it takes to get the job done this year. This trade makes the Yankees serious AL East contenders. And if for some reason they can't swing the East, they are the front runners in my book to win the wild card. Rumors out Pittsburgh are that the New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Pirates have struck a deal. The rumors began before tonight’s Pirates game but picked up steam when Xavier Nady was pulled after the first inning. The deal calls for Nady and Damaso Marte to join the Yankees. In return, NY sends stud hitting prospect Jose Tabata, Ross Ohlendorf , Phil Coke, George Kontos.
