The Mets increased their draft payout from $3,821,300 in 2007, so they seem to be moving in the right direction. Bear in mind that the crummier teams with the highest draft picks tend to pay the biggest signing bonuses, though other teams can make up some of that ground by paying above slot money for players with signability concerns. Now that the Yankees have fired 3rd base coach Bobby Meacham the door remains open for Willie Randolph.  In a article by George King in the NY Post, Willie was quoted: "I heard rumors about [Yankee] changes," "I haven't talked to anyone. I buzzed Brian to congratulate him [on his new contract], but other than that I have had no contact at all. I'll try and wait to see what happens."
