Yanks' pursuit of Lowell to send A-Rod to Bosox? -
| ken.davidoff@newsday.com November 13, 2007 Just last week, at the general managers' meetings, Brian Cashman said that he expected Mike Lowell to return to the Red Sox. But free agents can negotiate with other clubs today, and Lowell, the Most Valuable Player of the 2007 World Series, is still a free agent. Newsday: Davidoff: Yanks’ pursuit of Lowell to send A-Rod to Bosox? This could be the most shocking news I’ve heard...since the ‘65 Yankees hired Andy Robustelli to be their physical training instructor as part of “The Million Dollar Faculty”! But free agents can negotiate with other clubs today, and Lowell, the Most Valuable Player of the 2007 World Series, is still a free agent. And the Yankees intend to capitalize on that development - which, in turn, could push Alex Rodriguez toward the rival Red Sox. The Yankees will reach out to Lowell, who grew up in their farm system, ...

What To Offer Mike Lowell?
Published 11/13/2007 by Steve Lombardi at WasWatching.com
Mike Lowell is now on the open market. The Yankees want to talk to him. I've already gone on record on this one - stating that I would be fine with an offer of three years for $33 million with a team option for a fourth. However, if Lowell is insisting on a guaranteed fourth year, I believe that you have to pass on this one. If Lowell was willing to split the difference between a guaranteed fourth year and the team having an option - say, making it a player option that goes into effect when certain performance levels are met in the ...

Odds and Ends: Clark, Izturis
Published 11/13/2007 by Tim Dierkes at MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
... The D'Backs don't figure to spend much on free agents, because they're a smart team. Tony Clark wants two years, $4MM, and the team is thinking it over. The Bucs will probably hold onto Jack Wilson this winter, as they're cutting Cesar Izturis loose rather than pay him $5.45MM.  The Cardinals have interest in Izturis, by the way. Confirming what we already knew: the Yankees will pursue Mike Lowell and Johan Santana. ...

Will Mike Lowell End Up With the Yankees?
Published 11/13/2007 by Matt Watson at FanHouse
... , and today marks the first day that other teams are allowed to make official offers. Will the Yankees swoop in and grab the World Series MVP out of Boston's clutches? It's possible, especially if the Yankees offer the fourth year that Lowell is apparently holding out for. From Newsday: ...

Mike Lowell

Red Sox re-signed third baseman Mike Lowell to a three-year, $37.5 million contract. It's hardly a great deal for Lowell's age 34-36 seasons, but the Red Sox didn't have to go four years and it keeps their fans happy. It's he's a $6 million player in ...
