Step one is to sit down with Alex Rodriguez and make every effort to sign him to a long-term extension. (According to ESPN, Cashman is laying the groundwork to do just this now.) The sooner the better. If A-Rod is going to opt-out of the remaining $81M owed to him on his current contract, he has to be moved.
