Yankees Will Negotiate In-Season With A-Rod
Published 7/11/2007 by RotoAuthority at MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
... Those commenters have been validated by Buster Olney's recent story at ESPN.com. Buster says the Yankees will bend their rules to talk extension with A-Rod before the season ends. The Yanks would want to add on to Rodriguez's current contract, so he'd have to agree not to opt out. That way Texas will continue footing a portion of the bill. ...

... It’s a tough pill to swallow, and maybe one that George will never accept, but it’s the right move. Step one is to sit down with Alex Rodriguez and make every effort to sign him to a long-term extension. (According to ESPN, Cashman is laying the groundwork to do just this now.) Cashman Rethinks The Cash, Man

... As they saying goes you can hope in one hand and shit in the other and see which one fills up first and so the Yankees wisely changed course yesterday and began a dialogue with Rodriguez and Scott Boras. The Yankees would like to avoid a situation that sees A-Rod hit the open market and would like to extend the current contract beyond the 2010 expiration date. That would buy out the opt out and assure the Yankees won't face a bidding war for A-Rod's services. ...
