(New York Daily News) They play tonight in Houston and Joba Chamberlain will have a longer leash than he did in his first two starts. (New York Post) LET'S MAKE A DEAL: The LoHud Yankees Blog's Peter Abraham wonders if the Yankees will make a run at C.C. Sabathia, even though he'll be a free agent at the end of the season. ... town. (As a side note, the Babe gave him an autographed ball, which our grandfather promptly gave away to his brother, and we have no idea where the ball is as of today.) Anyway, Babe's former house is seeking landmark status. We'll be honest -- we didn't realize this -- but the Yanks took that pitcher from Creighton who throws both lefty and righty (Pat Venditte), and he's headed to Staten Island . Tyler Kepner has a great blog entry on an old-time Yankee scout . Start the rumor mill : with the Indians struggling and about to use Victor Martinez, CC Sabathia ...

Sabathia on the Block
Published 6/13/2008 by YF at YFSF
... In the NYT this morning, Tyler Kepner speculates that the injury-riddled Indians are likely to deal C.C. Sabathia, and the Yanks are the top candidate for partner. What kind of deal will Cleveland be looking for? They picked the Expos' pockets when they dealt Barrtolo Colon to Montreal in 2002. The Yanks have prospect depth in the minors, at least with pitchers, though it's hard to imagine Phil Hughes going. Would anyone, besides Melky, be sorry to see Robi Cano dealt at this point (a Kepner suggestion)? ...

CC Bronx-bound?
Published 6/13/2008 by YankeeGM (noreply@blogger.com) at Yankee GM Blog
With the Indians 6.5 games behind the pale hose, and Victor Martinez headed for season-ending elbow surgery, Tyler Kepner speculates that Mark Shapiro may be putting CC Sabathia up for grabs. Sabathia would be perfect for what ails the Yanks. A true lefty ace to pitch in front of Wang, Pettitte and Moose would make the Yankee rotation extremely formidable. The obvious question is - what would we have to give up to get him? Kepner throws the name Robbie Cano out there - is he nuts? Yeah, Robbie has struggled mightily this year; but to trade a young, somewhat proven middle infielder for 3 months of even Sandy Koufax makes no sense. If we can get CC for a ...

Sabathia to the Yankees?
Published 6/13/2008 by noreply@blogger.com (Craig Calcaterra) at ShysterBall
That's what Tyler Kepner is speculating anyway: A painful swing by the Cleveland Indians’ Víctor Martínez on Wednesday could have significant ramifications for the Yankees. An elbow injury to Martínez all but ended the Indians’ flickering playoff hopes, and will probably lead to a trade of the ace left-hander C. C. Sabathia. If Sabathia is on the trade market, the Yankees will have strong interest . . . He can be a free agent after the season, and the Indians have not given up hope of signing him. But the going rate for a pitcher like Sabathia, who turns 28 in August, would probably be six or seven years at $19 million or $20 million a ...

Flickering Hopes and Miracles
Published 6/13/2008 by Vegas Watch (noreply@blogger.com) at Vegas Watch
Yankees' beat writer Tyler Kepner wrote an article in the Times today about the possibility of the Yankees trading for C.C. Sabathia. I like Kepner, but I violently disagree with about half of the article, and thought other parts were an interesting jump off for discussion. So here goes. A painful swing by the Cleveland Indians’ Víctor Martínez on Wednesday could have significant ramifications for the Yankees. An elbow injury to Martínez all but ended the Indians’ flickering playoff hopes, and will probably lead to a trade of the ace left-hander C. C. Sabathia.I guess he needed a way to kick off the article and get everybody's attention. Well, ...

Will Yankees Make a Run at C.C. Sabathia?
Published 6/13/2008 by Josh Alper at FanHouse
Filed under: Cleveland, New York, Yankees, Indians, MLB GossipThe news that Victor Martinez will be joining several of his teammates on the disabled list for at least six weeks makes it hard to see the Indians making the turnaround they'll need to get back into the playoff race. That has naturally lit the fire under talks about a potential trade of C.C. Sabathia before July 31st. He's going to be a free agent, will cost more than the Indians can afford and will have suitors all around baseball. One of them could be the Yankees. They didn't bite on Johan Santana over the offseason but playing field has changed a ...

Forget it Yankee Fans…Sabathia Not Going to New York
Published 6/13/2008 by Matt Loede at Indians Confidential
You had to know this was coming.  Despite the fact that the Indians have stated they really are in no mood to be trading players, at least not yet, today’s New York Times is just throwing it out there - the Yankees wouldn’t mind C.C. Sabathia.  The story goes is that with the latest injury to Victor Martinez, there is no way the Indians can win the Central, and they likely will look to move C.C.  Yes, that is a possible option for the team, but Mark Shaprio told us on Wednesday that he feels the Central is a wide open division, and that it’s no secret trading Sabathia means surrender. Of course what the article does not point out ...

Griffey to Rays? Sabathia to Yankees?? Let the MLB trade rumor season begin!
Published 6/16/2008 by Brian Joseph at Baseball Digest Daily
... New York Times reporter Tyler Kepner is trying to manufacture a Sabathia to the Yankees deal.  On June 13, Kepner wrote an article titled "Yanks Would Have Interest In Sabathia."  A read through the article makes one wonder why the title doesn't have the words "Tyler Kepner thinks..." at the beginning of its proclamation.  Then, an injury to Yankees ace Chien-Ming Wang, played perfectly into Kepner's theme and the headline to his recap of their 13-0 stomping of the Astros read ...

BL's Sabathia Trade Proposal
As the Yankees universe waits with baited breath to hear how long Chien Ming Wang will be out due to yesterday's foot injury, the trade rumors have begun to circulate with frenetic pace. A Tale of Two Lefties
With Chien-Ming Wang suffering a foot injury, there's a new meme going around that the Yankees should explore trading for C.C. Sabathia. If Sabathia is truly available, I think it's at least worth exploring.
