Published 7/7/2008 by Will Brinson at FanHouse
Filed under: New York, AL East, MLB All-Star Game Maybe the All-Star Game is a meaningless to the players and just an excuse for Bud Selig to admire himself for a week. That doesn't mean that the selections should be stupid. Today, the MLB 'Haus gives you All-Star Grievances. Grievance: The lack of Devil Rays and overcompensation of Sawx and Yanks. I understand that the ASG is getting played in New York and that the Yankees and Red Sox have the two best records in all of baseball ... oh, what's that? I'm sorry. I haven't been watching ESPN all week while ...

... Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez, who is batting .304 with 21 homers and 43 RBIs this year, gets to start up the middle with Phillies sensation Chase Utley, who we recently put under our voodoo microscope. Also, Cristian Guzman is totally an All-Star. Let that one sink in. For a complete list of reserves (there are a few more Red Sox players smashed in there) check out MLB.com and make your final vote count. ... He's hitting just .218 and slugging only .360 this season. He has more strikeouts (70) than hits (53), and is currently in one of the worst slumps of his career: just 12 hits in his past 92 at-bats (.130). As Vegas Watch points out, of the 20 AL catchers with 150+ plate appearances, he ranks 17th with a -2.3 ...

Before I go ahead a give you the lineups and pitchers for tonight's game, I wanted to take the time and congratulate Jason Varitek on being named to the 2008 AL All-Star team.  Varitek has a .219 average, .361 slugging percentage and an on base percentage of .301.  You can't fault the players for showing their allegiance to Varitek, but this is most definitely an extreme case.  ...
Seven Red Sox, Including Four Starters, Make All-Star Team
The 2008 All-Star Game may be held at Yankee Stadium in New York next Tuesday evening, but it will definitely feel like a night at Fenway Park in Boston. On Sunday afternoon, seven players from the current Red Sox roster were named to represent Boston on the American League All-Star squad, which will be managed by Terry Francona: outfielder J.D. Drew ; designated hitter David Ortiz ; closer ...
Jason Varitek is... an All-Star??
Joe Torre used to get a lot of flack when he was Yankees manager for picking his own guys to be All-Star reserves, but Terry Francona takes the cake. On today's All-Star Selection Show on TBS, it was announced that Jason Varitek would join Joe Mauer and Dioner Navarro as catchers on the American League roster. I can see having three catchers, since it's an exhibition game and all, but ...
AL & NL Rosters Set For 2008 MLB All-Star Game In New York
The good-bye All-Star celebration at Yankee Stadium will feature a decidedly Red Sox and Cubbie flair. Boston and Chicago will field seven all-stars apiece, the most for either league. Kevin Youkalis, Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez will be starting for the Red Sox and accompanied to the Bronx by Jonathan Papelbon, Jason Varitek and J.D. Drew. The Cubs will start Alfonso ...
