Young focused on winning, being role model
Vince Young said he values the respect and admiration his teammates have for him. Here are some of the things they had to say about their signal caller: Linebacker Keith Bulluck : "Whatever pressures were going on in his life at that time last summer, he was feeling big stress. He was talking about quitting football and though it might have been for the time, for the moment, it ... [link]

VINCE CONSIDERED RETIREMENT?
Published 5/23/2008 by Mike Florio at ProFootballTalk.com
Wow, that Madden curse thing really is strong.  Last year, it almost persuaded the guy featured on the cover of the game to retire. Titans quarterback Vince Young tells Thomas George of NFL.com that Young considered quitting football after his rookie season.“I really thought long and hard about it,” Young said.  “There was so much going on with my family.  It was crazy being an NFL quarterback.  It wasn’t fun anymore. All of the fun was out of it.  All of the excitement was gone.  All I was doing was worrying about things.“My teammates helped lift me out of it.  I prayed really hard.  And I began to focus on God’s calling for me.  Play football. Be a role model.”  Drink tequila from the bottle in public. ...

Vince Young Says He Almost Retired After Rookie Season
Published 5/24/2008 by Ryan Wilson at FanHouse
Filed under: Titans, NFL Fans I like Vince Young and not just because he loves hanging out at male-only topless bars. His National Championship Game performance against USC two years ago was legendary, and if he never throws another NFL touchdowns, he'll always have that. Curiously, it almost happened -- the never throwing another NFL pass bit. After winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award following the 2006 season, Young says he almost retired. "I really thought long and hard about it," Young said on Thursday after practice. "There was so much going on with my family. It was crazy being an NFL quarterback. It wasn't fun anymore. All of ...

Some Titan Memorial Day weekend notes
Published 5/24/2008 by Drexel Perry at Total Titans
Some Titan Memorial Day weekend notes Memorial Day weekend is officially upon us. As most of us travel to see loved ones or prepare to host barbecues consisting of tons of great food, here are a few Titan-related tidbits of info to satisfy your hunger for football news. We all witnessed Vince Young’s struggles during his nightmarish sophomore campaign in the NFL, but it’s startling to hear that the Titans’ franchise quarterback actually considered retirement last season. Overwhelmed by the pressure associated with the burden of being a starting quarterback in this league and some family issues, Vince briefly contemplated calling it quits during training camp last year. “I really thought long ...

Vince Young very nearly quit football
Published 5/27/2008 at Shutdown Corner
For the first time this year, the people at EA Sports elected to put a retired player on the cover of their Madden video game. Unbeknownst to them, they almost did the same thing last year. Vince Young was ready to quit football after his rookie year. He doesn't go into great detail about the reasons, but he did tell Thomas George of NFL.com that things were once so bad for him that retirement was a viable option. "I really thought long and hard about it. There was so much going on with my family. It was crazy being an NFL quarterback. It wasn't fun anymore. All of the fun was out of it. All of the excitement was gone. All I was doing was ...

We may never understand the NFL athlete
Published 5/28/2008 by Samuel Lam at Mining the Gold Rush
We may never understand the NFL athlete New York Jets v Tennessee Titans Image details: New York Jets v Tennessee Titans served by picapp.com As reported earlier, 49ers waive LB Ezra Butler for his issues with marijuana . Another NFL athlete with off-field issues that cost him a spot on the team. You can look at Chris Henry, who last played for the Bengals. With his legal troubles, the team just let him go also. He might find another team to latch on to, but that leash is very short. But look at guys like Pacman Jones and Ray Lewis. Jones may find himself in Dallas, a team that might win the Superbowl after all the fiasco he went through (especially the wrestling gig). What ...

VINCE SAYS HE WASN’T GOING TO QUIT
Published 5/30/2008 by Mike Florio at ProFootballTalk.com
For the second time in a week, Titans quarterback Vince Young is in full-blown damage control mode. On May 22, Young apologized (sort of) for the images of his shirtless, all-male tequila party that recently hit the Internet. The next day, word surfaced that Young told NFL.com that he considered “retiring” from the NFL after 2006, his rookie season.  As Jim Rome pointed out on Tuesday during his weekday ESPN show, “retiring” after one season isn’t called “retiring.”  It’s called “quitting.” Apparently stung by the intense criticism of his ill-advised monologue, Young now says that he didn’t mean what he said.  “ I was never going to quit football ,” Young said on Thursday.  “Football, that ...

VY: ‘I ain’t never said I was going to quit football’
Published 5/30/2008 by Brooks at SPORTSbyBROOKS
Were you as skeptical as I was when the absurd assertion was floated earlier this week that Vince Young contemplated retirement after his rookie season? Vince Young drunk and shirtless Apparently not, as all the media reports I observed at the time seemed to take a VY quote seriously that indicated he was ready to step away from the game after the 2006 season. Today the NASHVILLE TENNESSEAN reports that Young now says he never considered quitting football (he saw his paycheck?). Young: “ I ain’t never said I was going to quit football. ” A telling comment. Not about Young’s football career, but the state of the University of Texas’ Department of English. Mike Florio of PRO ...
