The One that's Going to Get Away
Published 11/7/2007 by StatsGuru at Baseball Musings
My latest SportingNews.com column discusses why the Marlins made a mistake by not signing Miguel Cabrera to a long term contract . It's also the reason why the Yankees should be willing to give up a front line pitcher to own Miguel. He has a very good chance of producing a Hall of Fame career and is just entering his most productive phase. In fact, if I were running the Red Sox, I'd be willing to trade Ellsbury and Lester to get Miguel, providing he would be willing to sign a long term contract. In the Yankees case, he would go a long way toward replacing A-Rod's power, and for ...
TSN: Pinto: Marlins are letting the big one, Cabrera, get away

TSN: Pinto: Marlins are letting the big one, Cabrera, get away Just how good is Miguel Cabrera? David Pinto takes a look. One indicator of whether a hitter will reach the Hall of Fame examines how a player has performed when he reaches 22 years old. Now 24, Cabrera has the numbers to indicate he is a future Hall of Famer—and the Marlins should lock him up. The statistical indicator is 1,000 plate appearances through seasonal age 22. A player’s seasonal age is the age he will be before July 1 of a given season. The following chart shows the probability of a hitter reaching ...
Bronx Banter: Gumbo

In New York, the football Giants and the Knicks have not yet been able to wrestle the back page from the baseball boys yet. Nothing really new to report, but after a quick look around, here's what I got for the daily schmooze: Tyler Kepner on the Yanks; David Pinto on Miguel Cabrera ; Steven Goldman on the Hot Stove; a Miguel Tejada-to-the-Yankees rumor out of Baltimore; Steve Treder digs up some gems from the past over at The Hardball Times; Oh, and this from Buster Olney a few days ago: Andy Pettitte had to give the Yankees an ...

... still just 24, remains to be seen. By almost all accounts, Cabrera is a terrible fielder at third, but that could be masked somewhat (or at least made to be less of a liability) with a switch back to the outfield. The Mets happen to have a potential opening in right field, so if they can come up with the pieces the Marlins are looking for then the possibility exists that a deal could get done. Speaking of Cabrera, David Pinto (of Baseball Musings) has an article at The Sporting News about how letting Cabrera get away would be a colossal mistake. ...

A busy week for Tigers baseball during which nothing occured

... aren’t afraid of the trade market for relievers either.
While I may be a bit afraid of the trade market myself, not wanting to give up too much of the system, I do repeat 2008 is a BIG year. So it’s nice to see the Tigers looking around, checking to see if the price is right. Dombrowski knows the teams deficiencies and is willing to do something about it. That is always a good sign.
And some other stuff. A-Rod = no!! Miguel Cabrera = no thanks.
I combined these points. Alex Rodriguez is just ...
