Wednesday afternoon Joey Votto became only the fifth player since 1956 to hit three home runs in one of his first 60 MLB games. (Check the list. Let me go on the record as saying that Votto is NOT a cooler name than Garko, despite what some may say . (This is largely because nobody can seem to agree on whether to pronounce it "Vaught-0" or "Vote-O." No such problems with Garko.) But having the better name is about the only thing Garko has on Votto, who today took a big step toward making these nine people look smart. (Though ...Pretty sure Joey Votto never forgets this day

I thought it was a good omen that the first image I saw when tuning in to some lunchtime Cubs baseball was the Reds mascot, Mr. Redlegs, falling off a golf cart and losing his head. Literally. 1) The 44.0 percent-owned Joey Votto hit three home runs, and he hit 'em to all fields. That gives Votto seven on the year. He's batting .302. Votto also stole his first base of the season.
