That was such a bad pitch I'm confused -- I mean, he's actually thrown a ball before, right?

I like how Eric Davis looks like someone just insulted his mother after the throw.

Here's what ED is thinking: "Did...did that just really happen? Wait, let me see that ball. Who were you throwing to? Was Mike Piazza running down to first base and I didn't notice? When did I wander into bizarro world?"

This is something I've never been able to figure out. I can't remember anytime in my life ever seeing a decent first pitch thrown out. Not even by the president. He played baseball! He owned a team! Why can't he make a halfway decent throw? When I hit my 40s and 50s, will I suddenly lose the ability to toss a baseball less than 20 yards?

If Dick Cheney were throwing that pitch, he would have nailed Davis in the head.  Then denied it.

I'm going to go with he's an old dude how hasn't thrown a thing a 40 years. Or at least I hope that's the reason.

But if you knew that you were going to be throwing the opening day pitch in front of thousands of people, why wouldn't you at least practice? At least then you'd find out that you couldn't throw to save your life, and could call in sick or something.

Here's the sad part. Apparently he did practice. So much he sought the help of the U of Cinci coach. Needless to say, I'm assuming Bearcat baseball is not a power.

he must have been testing the umpire to see how large the strike zone was going to be this season

In defense of my 7 year old little leager daughter, I must take offense of the phrase "throws out the first pitch at Red's opening day....like a girl". I think the correct wording should be: "throws out the first pitch at Red's opening day....worse than a girl"...

I mean honestly, the so-called pitch looked more like something my two-year-old-in-training would've offered up. :-)
