One of the points I made is that from pitches 91-105 Zambrano treats hitters to a tasty OPS of 1.127. Maybe Lou and Larry considered that when they made the decision on Wednesday. Ask 100 hitters who they would rather face between Marmol and Zambrano. What do you think that answer would be? [link]

Of the three teams who lost yesterday, the Cubs would seem to be in the best shape. The Cubs lost to the best pitcher in baseball. It happens. Now if they lose tonight, it's probably time to freak out.

Piniella Did Not Lose the Game by Replacing Zambrano With Marmol

The second-guessers were out in full force this morning after the Cubs' 3-1 loss in Game 1 of the NLDS. All of them consider Lou Piniella's removal of Carlos Zambrano to start the seventh inning in favor of Carlos Marmol to have been the cause of the Cubs' loss. They are wrong. Marmol was the best option.
