Jim Fassel Bites Back
Published 2/10/2008 by Dan Steinberg at D.C. Sports Bog
Jim Fassel Bites Back I'd expect it'll get uglier than this at some point, but for now, here are a few of Fassel's pointed comments about Vinny Cerrato the Redskins , via CBSSports.com's Clark Judge "At the end of the day," said Fassel, "Dan wanted to make a big splash, and I think he was worried about the Baltimore thing. He worried about the public relations (fallout), and he didn't know which way to go. "I heard someone say there are no more George Youngs or Jim Finks in this league, people who really know the game. And I think that happened here. I don't think Dan ...
I don't care what Fassel says, Jim Zorn looks ok to me

... (but he's right!) so sayeth CBS Sportsline. Emphasis is all mine, though it probably helps to read the bolded portions imagining Jim Fassel spitting while saying them, or scouling heavily, or swaying erratically whilst clutching a tiki doll so ferociously his nails begin to crack: ...
Northwest Sports: In the Morning

... Former Giants head coach Jim Fassel, supposedly a finalist for the Redskins job, tells CBSSportsline.com that the team's decision to hire Jim Zorn was due to their desire to "make a big splash." Not sure if Fassel has Zorn confused with Dan Marino, or even Dave Krieg. Fassel adds: "Someone said to me that Jim Zorn has three jobs he hasn't done now. He's a head coach, and he's never done it. He's an offensive coordinator, and he's never done it. And he's calling the plays, and he's never done it." But--Zorn can ...
Redskins pass on Jim Fassel - again

I don't really care who coaches the Redskins, and good luck operating in that nutty organization to Jim Zorn, the best quarterback in NFL history named after a famous Long Island chicken joint.
But I do feel bad for Jim Fassel, whose resume suggests a better coaching hand than he has been dealt since leaving the Giants.
Here is a good story on that topic.
FASSEL BURNS BRIDGE BACK TO NFL GIG?

Three days ago, it looked like Jim Fassel would be the next head coach of the Redskins. Two days ago, it all changed, in a surprising way. Count Fassel among the perplexed.“ This is a shock to me ,” Fassel told Clark Judge of CBSSports.com.“It’s a long, twisted story,” Fassel added. “There was something going on behind the scenes, there’s no question about it. I thought things were falling my way, then, suddenly, this happens. It’s strange.” The condensed version? Fassel thinks that Executive V.P. of Football Operations Vinny Cerrato promoted Zorn behind the scenes, and ...
Hell Hath No Fury Like Snyder-Scorned Jim Fassel

... Snyder for the Redskins coaching job. Fassel: “Someone said to me that Jim Zorn has three jobs he hasn’t done now. He’s a head coach, and he’s never done it. He’s an offensive coordinator, and he’s never done it. And he’s calling the plays, and he’s never done it. Apparently Fassel is blissfully unaware that such comments aren’t a great way to land future employ in the league. And the former Giants coach didn’t limit his caustic comments to Zorn. Fassel on Snyder and the Redskins: “ This is a shock to me. … There was something going on behind the scenes, there’s no question about ...
Jim Zorn to the Redskins: Probably the worst NFL hire of all-time
Published 2/11/2008 by Tim Kawakami at Kawakami
... OK, tied with Fred O’Connor and Pete McCulley, but that doesn’t really count because the 49ers weren’t really trying back then. Zorn is the worst: Least prepared, worst communicator, most obvious risk for total failure, right from Day 1. The Redskins probably were set to hire Jim Fassell–old re-tread but a good coach–and were shocked at the backlash around the league when Fassell leaked out. Snyder likes big names. Zorn was already in the house as the offensive coordinator. (Love the Fassel quotes to Clark Judge on CBSsportsline.com –they’ve hired Zorn to do three things he’s ...
Daniel Snyder’s never-ending quest to be the worst owner in sports.

... Secondly, its not like Spagnuolo was the only potential candidate for the job. In fact, there were actually candidates who would have been happy with the coaching staff Snyder had already hired, i.e. Steve Mariucci and Jim Fassel, with Fassel being all but named the new coach until this weekend. While many are continuing to speculate why Fassel didn’t get the job, I find it much more poignant to focus on why Zorn was given the job. To review: Zorn was hired as the offensive coordinator, some more qualified people were interviewed, they either weren’t chosen or ...
Jim Fassel: Ravens Stint Costing Me Shot at Head Coaching Jobs
Published 2/12/2008 by Josh Alper at FanHouse
... In the case of the Redskin job, I think he's right. It's the same area, the same media and the same fan base that witnessed his humiliation. Snyder must have been put off by that, because he thought enough of Fassel's opinion that he hired the offensive coordinator Fassel recommended during an interview. That would be Zorn, who ultimately got the job. ...
