I just heard the bad news, and it's a crushing blow to the start of the Tigers' off season.Joel Zumaya tore up his pitching shoulder moving belongs yesterday, and has already had reconstructive surgery. He's out till at least July. DETROIT — The Detroit Tigers today announced righthanded pitcher Joel Zumaya underwent surgery yesterday at the Scripps Clinic in San Diego. Zumaya had an AC joint reconstruction on his right shoulder, a procedure performed by Dr. Heinz Hoenecke and Dr. Jan Fronek. He was injured moving personal items during the California wildfires.

When Dave Dombrowski was quoted as saying he'd be "conservative" in pursuing relievers during the off-season, he surely hadn't yet heard the news that Joel Zumaya hurt his right shoulder while moving personal items during the California wildfires. (Once again, my cell phone's been ringing off the hook. I should really be more attentive to breaking news.
