Authorities say a Mississippi State tennis player has been arrested and charged with raping a 20-year-old woman during a party at his apartment. Christopher Richard Doerr, who is from London, was in jail Tuesday on a $50,500 bond. The 20-year-old junior also faces a charge of furnishing beer to a minor.

Gilles Simon beat Radek Stepanek 6-1, 6-4 Friday at the Masters Cup, then had to wait and see if he would advance to the semifinals. The match was essentially meaningless because Roger Federer was facing Andy Murray in the later match. Federer, the four-time Masters Cup champion, needed to beat Murray to advance. But if he lost, Simon would be through, regardless of what he had done against Stepanek. Simon beat Federer in their opening Red Group match.
