Mallett to transfer to Arkansas

Ryan Mallett, who just finished his freshman season as a Michigan backup quarterback, is transferring to Arkansas, according to an Arkansas newspaper. Arkansas compliance director Marvin Caston said he was waiting to receive an official transfer release this afternoon, according to The Morning News in Fayetteville, Ark.

Joseph reportedly signs with Flames

Former Wings goalie Curtis Joseph has signed a contract with the Calgary Flames, ESPN reported. Joseph, 40, played last season for Phoenix, which decided not to re-sign him.He has been working out in Toronto, hoping to catch on with another team. In Calgary, it is expected he will back up Miikka Kiprusoff.

Source says Jones will sign $10 million deal to coach SMU
