Thumbs Up: Brian Kelly

While I normally find it pathetic when fans cheer because a player gets injured, I couldn't help but smile for this one. This week's BIG Thumbs Up goes to the awesomeness of Brian Kelly of the vaunted Lions Defense for his Sean Taylor-esque shot on Chad Johnson. Sadly, "Future Hall of Famer" truly does deserve everything that he gets.

Michael Phelps: Too Ugly For Superstardom?

The only problem with all of this publicity for The Human Fish is that some jackass like Jeremy Schapp has posed the question that Phelps might be the best athlete of all time in any sport. It's an interesting theory and Phelps sure does have the hardware to back it up, but I just don't think that I could annoint him with that title. Let's get superficial.

Is Cliff Lee The Worst?

Barring some catastrophic misfortune the likes of which have never been seen before, Cliff Lee is going to win the Cy Young award in the American League. I really hate to admit that, too, because I've always felt that he sucks. The guy was pitching in Buffalo last year for God's sake! The point of today's post is to determine if Lee would be the worst recipient of the Cy Young Award since 1980.

It doesn't happen too often, but every once in a while, a coach or manager will make all the right moves for a few weeks and everything will come up gold. Take Clint Hurdle last year for example. He could have lit Matt Holliday on fire and the Rockies were still going to win. Sometimes, even the most insane coaches will get bailed out by the superb play of their players.

ESPN's New Hockey Analyst Is...

I think that ESPN needs to broaden their search to find a replacement for Barry Melrose. Instead of looking at retired players or coaches, why not rent a couple of movies or watch a few TV shows to find some new, untapped hockey experts. Invading Big Ten Media Day

Yesterday, the Big Ten Conference held their annual Football Media Day in Chicago. Apparently, my invitation to cover the event was lost in the mail. I should mention that I didn't apply for one, wouldn't go anyway, and had no idea that this was even going on, but I still feel like the Big Ten let me down.

Ohio State Fans Hate Titletown

Thursday’s event at OSU (Columbus's TitleTown segment) – which was held between St. John Arena and Ohio Stadium – was similar to ESPN’s College GameDay program. Wendi Nix was the host and she interviewed two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin on the set (one of his Heismans was also perched on the set). Over 200 Ohio State fans showed up dressed in full Buckeye gear. TWO HUNDRED!

The Winners Book Review

It's a pretty interesting read to be honest. Tressel delves into some pretty dark and untold stories surrounding his career rising through the coaching ranks. He discusses everything from his childhood as a bi-partisan football fan all the way up to his current status as one of college football's best coaches. It's a 13 chapter Mein Kampf.

The Fans Are Idiots

Let me drop 3 ways to fix this so that this "exhibition game" that "means something" gives the fans the most deserving players. 1. No online voting. 2. The fans votes only help with the selection process. These people know nothing and shouldn't determine who starts. 3. Not every team gets a representative. You try telling me that the Mariners or Nationals deserve a rep this year.
