Yi Jianlian's first taste of NBA competition did not go smoothly, as he scored 11 points for the Chinese national team in a 105-100 loss to the Dallas Mavericks' summer league team Tuesday night.

Wow! This is a HUGE surprise! There's only 1200 chinese people in all of Milwaukee, but me thinks that's not the real issue. Yi loves American culture, and he's not likely to get a steady diet of movie premiers and awards shows in Milwaukee. When the guy is on record saying he doesn't want to play for a team like the Bucks - WHY DRAFT HIM???

Great question, and the writer says 'probably not', mostly because so many things have to come together at the right time. This is why the NFL is so great - every year, things are pretty much wide open. While there are a few favorites, you could make a good case for 10 or more teams, and the actual Superbowl winner could be none of them. NBA needs to learn a little...

I suppose I get the point, but can we really watch 2 teams play each other NINE times in a row? Also, the reason the Superbowl sells so well, is that it's a one-game, all or nothing proposition. It's hard to see the urgency in travelling to a game, when there 7 or 8 games left to decide the winner...

NBA Draft In a Word - Anticlimactic

GMs are still stupid, Owners are still stingy, no has any balls, and not a single 'big' move made anywhere. Oh, and ESPNs graphics and presentation where abysmal. Good to see the NBA carrying over it's momentum from a stellar NBA Finals.

Keeping Suns together bigger than draft

Call me one of those Suns fans who was disappointed. The Suns did almost literally nothing - no trades, 1 very low draft pick, nothing. While I believe we're right there, and didn't NEED to do anything, there were options on the table (moving up in the draft, moving for KG), picking SOMEONE with their late round pick instead of trading it for cash (CASH?).

Wie Might Not Be Too Cool For (Q) School

Wie has been playing the LPGA on sponsors exeptions, and still hasn't decided if she wants full membership. If she does, she's going to have to go through Q school. She's only made $3K this year in earnings, and has't broken par in her last 20 rounds. Given all the bad publicity she's had over the past few weeks, sponsors exeptions are no longer a given. Time to grow up?

Lakers Desperate, Timberwolves Foolish

For all the trade talks going on, nothing will happen. The lakers are desperate to make a move, but have no viable assets to improve with, and the Timberwolves foolishly think their getting 90 cents on the dollar for Garnett.

Hollinger: Durant Best Prospect In a Decade

By now, everyone knows Hollinger has his wierd statistical analysis that allegedly identifies the best team, player, prospect etc. He's come up with some thing that ranks prospects. Using his system, Durant is the best prospect in a decade, miles ahead of the previous best (Melo in '03). Of course, he has Tayshaun as 11th best in '02 and Mike Sweetney ahead of Bosh and Wade in '03. Ugh.

A very thorough breakdown of the top NBA personalle executives. For the most part, it's common sense, putting the Spur's R.C. Buford at #1 is a no-brainer. But I don't put Dumars in the top 5, and Steve Kerr at 18? He hasn't DONE anything yet - especially with Elgin Baylor at 19! And how about MJ and Kevin McHale bottoming out at 29 and 30?

Boykins opting out of contract with Bucks

Anyone see him landing in Cleveland, where he has a house and still holds a basketball camp every year? Or maybe Phoenix where he'd make the Suns the fastest team in history...imagine Boykins and Leandro coming off the bench. Smallish lineup and they'd play no defense...but MAN that'd be fun to watch.

KG would be Lakers' Band-Aid

Great, sobering article on what KG would mean to the Lakers. Giving up depth and defense in Bynum for a slightly better player than Odom (read the article, the guy makes sense), while not addressing other pressing concerns (defense at the point gaurd position) doesn't seem to help. Also, remember what happened last time Bryant had to share the ball with another superstar??

Interesting local article on the challenges in Phoenix's new front office, with a couple of tid-bits I didn't know - for example, KG's $6.5M trade kicker is paid over two yeras, but gets lumped together for cap purposes, and counts next year, which would obviously have luxury tax implications.
