Can Jon Lester keep this up all season?

There is no doubt about it, Jon Lester has been the ace of the Red Sox staff thus far. He has already thrown 2 complete game shut-outs (including a no-hitter) and 61% of his starts have been quality starts. There should be no debate about the excellence of Jon Lester. The true question is whether or not he can keep it up. This can be broken down into two sections, performance and stamina.

2008 American League All-Stars

The MLB All-Stars aren't supposed to be announced until tomorrow but apparently the geniuses at TBS have a bit of an information leak. The reigning champion Boston Red Sox have 4 starters while the Yankees and Rangers will have 2 each.

Five Pawtucket Red Sox players elected to All-Star Game

The first-place Pawtucket Red Sox will be sending five players to this year’s International League All-Star Game. The game will take place on July 16th in Louisville, KY and this is the first time ever that the Triple-A PawSox have had more than three All-Stars in a season. Impressive.

Jacoby Ellsbury sets Red Sox rookie record for SB in a season

Johnny Damon puzzled by taking Joba out of bullpen

It didn't take long for the second-guessing to begin over Joba Chamberlain's move to the New York Yankees starting rotation. Left fielder Johnny Damon was quoted in the New York Daily News as having some doubt about taking Chamberlain out of his set-up relief role, where he has been dominant, and making him a starter.

David Ortiz placed on the DL

The MRI on David Ortiz’s left wrist is showing ligament damage and he will possibly be out for at least a month as the team put him on the 15-day DL tonight. It’s a partial tear and is reminiscent of what Nomar went through when he was having injury problems in Boston.

Justin Masteron to start for the Red Sox tomorrow

David Ortiz is listed as day-to-day with a sprained wrist

Big Papi left last night’s game in the 9th inning with a left wrist injury after swinging at a pitch and feeling a pop. X-Rays were negative and he is listed as day-to-day with a sprain.

Daisuke Matsuzaka put on the DL

Daisuke Matsuzaka was put on the disabled list today after an MRI on his shoulder revealed a mild strain of his right rotator cuff. Dice-K tried his hand at arguing the move, saying that he wanted to pitch through the strain. Unfortunately when you still need a translator to complete post-game interviews, the chances of winning an argument with your English speaking manager are pretty slim.

Red Sox nationally televised game schedule for 2008

FOX's Saturday baseball and ESPN's Sunday night baseball schedules have been released. The Red Sox have 8 games on FOX and 3 games on ESPN. Don't forget that just because a game is supposed to be on national TV doesn't always mean that it will be, so keep your fingers crossed that you don't get screwed by black-out games.
