Sorry, Shaq. This is Kobe's best team. So sayeth the Chuckmeister

Wild Yams reminded me of this little brouhaha in the TNT studio last night. I added it to Worst of the Night, but it really deserved its own post. As Mr. Yams put it: "Chuck's second big gaffe of the night was saying that this Lakers team is the best one Kobe's ever been on, although him saying that was totally worth it for Webber's fantastic reaction of wanting to walk off the set in disbelief. I love how Barkley shoots from the hip like that and doesn't think through the things he's about to say, because every now and then he'll let fly with a Bill Walton-esque bit of hyperbole like that. God bless Barkley." God bless Barkley, indeed. And ...

Why Charles Is The Best. Bar None.

Ernie Johnson explains how often the Lakers have met the Spurs in years 2004, 3, 2, 1 and ‘99, and shows a Kobe graphic detailing his 14 - 11 Playoff Career against San Antonio. Then Charles Barkley erupts: Charles Barkley: This is the best team he’s ever had though. Even counting Shaquille O’ Neal. Chris Webber: Whaaaat? CB: Really. CW: Come on. (awkward pause.) Chuck… CB: Hold on for a second. I think if they had him and Shaq, and the rest were role players. But this team with Gasol, and Odom, and Kobe I think those three ...

First thing first, the first road game has been won in the conference finals round. The Detroit Pistons took out the Boston Celtics in Game 2 in Boston. The Celtics seemed to be playing a solid game, but their defense wasn’t quite there. The Celtics allowed the Pistons to score 103 points in the Garden, which is a real problem for the men in green and white. The Celtics were the best defensive team in the league, up until last night. The series is now tied 1-1 and heading back to Detroit.

Is this Kobe’s best team?
Published 5/23/2008 by The Nugget at The Lakers Nation
ESPN: Charles Barkley is no stranger to controversy, and it appears the Round Mound of Profound has done it again. In a preview of the Western Conference finals, the TNT analyst said the current edition of the Los Angeles Lakers is the best team Kobe Bryant has been on. “This is the best team he’s ever had … even counting Shaquille O’Neal,” said Barkley. “They had him and Shaquille O’Neal, and the rest were role players. But this team with Gasol … and Odom and Kobe, I think those three are better than Kobe and Shaq.” Barkley’s studio cohorts ridiculed ...
