Harry Caray didn’t like Cracker Jacks
Home Run Derby —
You know, there are things that scar you for life.
Leon Durham letting a ball roll through his legs
Bill Buckner letting a ball roll through his legs
Seeing the Milwaukee Racing Sausages without their heads
Seeing the KC Royals’ Mascot get humped by a fan
But if you’re legendary baseball announcer Harry Caray, you get scarred for life when you apparently didn’t get a prize in your box of Cracker Jacks as a kid …

Harry Caray: 10 Years Later
FanIQ Blog —
Hello again, everybody. While we should be celebrating our nation's Presidents today, I suggest we instead honor Harry Caray and drink on the job. Deal?
10 years ago today Caray passed away and left us many slurred memories. And in case you were curious what names sounded like backwards, he was there for you.
Caray often made very little sense, but he was always clear on one thing: he loved baseball whether the Cubs were winning or mostly losing. Growing up a Cubs fan, I tuned into games as much to listen to Caray (and Stone) as I did to see how the Cubs would lose that day. ...
10 Year Since His Death, Harry Caray Still Timeless
AwfulAnnouncing —
I missed this item when it came out on Friday, but if you're in the Chicagoland area and you're near a TV....turn it to Comcast. Today is the 10th Anniversary of Harry Caray's passing and while it's sad to think that the loveable announcer is still gone, it's a great move by Comcast to air an entire day of programming on him... To honor Harry Caray 10 years after his passing, Comcast SportsNet will be devoting nearly 12 hours of programming to the legendary baseball broadcaster Monday. Starting at 11 a.m. with the 2007 documentary "Hello Again, Everybody: The Harry Caray Story," the daylong tribute will include rebroadcasts of ...
We Miss You, Harry

Ten years ago, a Chicago legend died only a couple of weeks shy of his 84th birthday. I loved him because he was the voice of the Cubs when I was growing up. I loved him because he made the games enjoyable, even when the product on the field was not. I loved him for lighthearted moments like this.

10 Years ago today we lost those Glasses
Diamond Hoggers —
Everyone has a Harry Caray story. It's hard to believe that 10 years ago today we lost the great legend of broadcasting heard so many afternoons on WGN. Caray was one of those sports figures you didn't just want to go on doing his thing forever, you expected him to because of his larger-than-life personality. My memories of Caray would have been all those sick days my mom would cart me over to my grandmothers who had cable. Around 2:00, I'd have some baseball to watch and flip it over to WGN. Harry was the voice of ...
No, there's not a prize in every box
Roto Arcade —
As Harry might've said, players don't always "do what they represent to do." At such times, it really is hard to speak in laudatory terms... For example, check out the April 7 Rotowire note on Jose Reyes' player page: Reyes has not stolen a base since Sept. 15 ... Last year's lack of running was due to his year-end slump, while this season, of the five times Reyes has been on first, he's been blocked three times by a runner on second. Once he does get hot at the plate, look for Reyes to start running ...

One suspects that Harry's real problem with the product is that he only had room for one Jack (i.e., Daniels) in his life... http://fivetooltool.blogspot.com - The Sports Blog That Loves You Back!

Clark & Heptner (The Suburban Rob Rossis) —
I was working on a second post last night when I noticed that Enviro had posted something in the meantime. I stopped to read his article and I laughed my ass off. Not because he is blind as a bat, but because I have put myself in the passenger seat of his car on numerous occasions and am still around to tell the tale. Let's have a little history lesson, shall we? Back when we were underage and had nothing to do on the weekends, Enviro would drive the 15 mile trek from his house in the boonies down to my house in the ghetto to pick me up and we would go cruising. We would drive around for hours, snacking on chocolate donuts and sipping Turkey Hill ...
Steve Stone Should Have Been Juan Gonzalez’s Conscience
Rumors and Rants —
Growing up a Chicago Cubs fan outside of a Chicago, having WGN was a godsend.
Now, Harry Caray got a lot of the love, acting like an old drunken grandpa spewing out hilarious, puzzling statements, one after another. Providing the commentary “substance” during many of my formative baseball viewing days was Steve Stone. A Cy Young winner with Baltimore in 1980, Stone was the perfect compliment to Caray. Plus, he’s an accomplished Jewish athlete, so I’m genetically inclined to worship him.
Well after he took some deserved digs at the Cubs during the Dusty Baker era, the Cubs and Stone separated. ...
