Modern Tube: Ozzie Guillen says eat your lima beans
Published 4/8/2008 at Big League Stew
When you play in the same city as the perenially sold-out Cubs, a great advertising team is a must. Fortunately for the White Sox, I think they have one this year ... (Wait until the end for the Ozzie Guillen's expletive-filled payoff.)  Best line: "Back in Venzuela, where I come from, Peru is my neighbor. Now my neighbor offers you lima beans and you're not going to eat them?"

Ozzie Guillen Swears at Small Children

Filed under: Chicago, White Sox, AL Central, MLB Media Watch, MLB Video As a joke! In a commercial! Please don't misinterpret my intentionally vague headline! As 'Duk at Big League Stew writes, it takes a great ad campaign to compete with the Cubs in Chicago, and I'll be honest -- I've heard this campaign's other efforts, and I've been left wanting. There's one where a girl calls in to talk to Jermaine Dye, and it's not really that funny, and then one with a fake Jim Thome. (How do I know the Jim Thome is fake? I've been hearing this commercial on the radio for a while now, and it generally makes me laugh every time. If there's one thing that the White Sox do well, it's promotion. Well, aside from Disco Demolition Night, of course. I was a little disappointed when the new campaign came out this spring that features players with hand-written, cardboard signs (much like those you'd see from their fans as they stand next to the freeway and try to sell you socks and newspapers) but I guess I just needed to wait for the radio spots to start. There are a few that are related links to the ones I'm posting below, but these were my favorites. It's nice to have a team that can laugh at itself - which probably helps after the first-class ass kicking the ...

Between Jay Mariotti and Hawk Harrelson, things related to the White Sox pretty much drive me crazy, but this marketing campaign is pretty good. You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video HT: Ozzie Guillen Swears at Small Children [FanHaus via Big League Stew]
