Wicked Weekly: July 25
Published 7/25/2008 by Rich Levine at Comcast SportsNet New England » Wicked Good Sports
Thoughts from a week that taught us that Manny’s even weirder than we thought…   Red Sox Stats Pack of the Week (Now with subheads!) Surprising Stat of the Week: Dice-K’s averaging only 98.8 pitches per start this season. How can that be? I would’ve guessed it was at least up around 300. That 98.8 is a little deceiving though. In his starts right before being place on the DL (66) and right after being activated (48), Dice-K threw… um, eight plus six, carry the one… only ...

A-11 Offense: The New Football Gimmick Working For Piedmont, California High School
Published 7/25/2008 at FanIQ Blog
There's a gimmick offense that has legs in California that puts all other gimmick offense to shame. Introducing the A-11 Offense, which even has a website devoted to spreading its extreme spread influence. It's described as such: "An innovative offense blending aspects of the spread option, west coast & run-and-shoot. Your team can use the A-11 as a "package" to supplement your own offense & feature up to eleven players as potential threats, and even two quarterbacks in the shotgun." What originators Kurt Bryan and Steve Humphries forgot to add to ...

Is the A-11 Pluto the spread offense of the future?
Published 7/26/2008 at Fanblogs.com
When the coaches at tiny Piedmont High School sat down in an attempt to scheme their way to the championship, they didn't have any idea if their new offense was even legal. A couple of high school playoffs later, the A-11 Pluto offense is changing high school football and may represent the future of the spread formation. The A-11 offense -- or "Pluto", as it was first known -- presents all 11 offensive players as if they were eligible, hence "A-11". The offense is best summarized as west coast meets run & shoot meets spread option. You essentially put a center, two QBs and a whole mess of skill ...

A-11 OFFENSE: IS THAT LEGAL?
Published 8/4/2008 by World of Isaac (noreply@blogger.com) at The World of Isaac
I've never heard of this and frankly, I'm not even sure this is entirely legal but some HS team's been running it. Supposedly, all 11 players on the field are eligible receivers. The base offense is one in which a center and two tight ends surround the football, three receivers are split right, three more split left and two quarterbacks stand behind in a shotgun, one of whom has to be at least 7 yards behind the line of scrimmage. I don't even know what to say about this. On one hand, it seems innovative, but on the ...

The A-11: Where Everyone Can Be a Receiver
Published 8/8/2008 by Dave at Dave's Football Blog
Since Walter Camp invented the gridiron, coaches have constantly looked for new ways to run an offense — the Wishbone, the Single Wing, the Run and Shoot, the Spread Option. Ultimately, they all have the same goal — find the weakness in the defense and exploit it as often as possible. What if you could exploit those weaknesses by making everyone a receiver? What you’re looking at here is the basic formation of the A-11 Offense, the brainchild of Kurt Bryan, who coaches football at Piedmont High School in Piedmont, California. He looked at his players, realized ...

DAMN RULEMONKEYS THREATEN TO KILL OUR BELOVED A-11
Published 8/12/2008 by Orson Swindle at EDSBS
Legality gets in the way of so many good things: the debate rages on as to whether the A-11 offense is even legal or not, but we would like to state for the record that we do not care, because like file-sharing and the discharging of fireworks in public places, we endorse them because we like them, not because they’re “good” or “in the community interest.” Gawk at the wacky below on the modified Emory and Henry in motion. Just for the single-wing enthusiasts out there: no, this will not make you gay just looking at it, even if it is from California. ...

A Closer Look at The Power Motion Offense
I watched a video the other day on a certain motion offense, called the Power Motion Offense. The video was done by a coach Shane Dreiling of TeamArete.com. It looks like a very versatile continuity motion offense that I think would work well as a base for a multitude of teams depending on what talent you have. Because, it is quite reliant on flex screens, most of your players should be ...
