Yahoo’s Jason King has a nice, long-form story on the rise of downtrodden Kansas football program to its newfound goodness, replete with details like Mangino and assistants personally cleaning years of grubby fingerprints off the walls before recruiting visits and such. It also lets in a hint that Mangino is not very nice, and may in fact be downright mean, something we find shocking–shocking, Nigel!–in a successful head coach. I couldn’t believe my eyes as I saw Arkansas’s 2007 version of the Wing T Offense dismantle one of the best defenses in the country en route to the Razorbacks upset of the previously top-ranked LSU Tigers.  Not only were stud running backs Darren McFadden and Felix Jones decimating the LSU front 4, but even fullback Peyton Hillis got in on the action.  In modern big time football, you don’t always see the fullback “scampering” for a 65 yard touchdown run on a fullback draw.    In addition to my ...
