Bugs & Cranks — Tied for first in the East, six straight wins, back-to-back sweeps of the Blue Jays and defending champion Red Sox. My favorite part of the greatest week in the history of the franchise came Saturday night. Clay Buckholz had shut out our Devil Rays for 7 and 2/3 innings, and was clinging to a 1-0 lead. Until Akinori Iwamora hit a 2-run blast to right to lead the new beast of the east to victory. Best of all, Aki knew it was gone right away and followed through with a spectacular bat flip. East Windup Chronicle — In case you missed it (I certainly did) the Rays coming out party has officially happened. One of the key plays over the weekend came off the bat of Akinori Iwamura, who hit a clutch 2-run blast to right during the Rays sweep of the Red Sox. Here’s former Seibu Lion Orestes Destrade making the call and throwing in some Japanese along the way. Tadahito Iguchi’s first HR of the year follows the Iwamura shot.
