A Nasty, Nasty Cheapie on LSU's Dorsey
Published 10/21/2007 by dawizofodds at The Wizard of Odds
This is about as cheap as it gets. An Auburn lineman chop blocks Louisiana State's Glenn Dorsey during Saturday night's game in Baton Rouge. This is really nasty and we're happy to report that Dorsey is OK. This play could have cost the projected top-five pick millions in the NFL draft. Thanks to Seth for sending this along. A reminder that we are looking for candidates for the cheapest shots of the year. This is a video-only category, and at then end of the season, we put the finalists up for vote. Here is a link to the 2006 cheapies.
PETE CARROLL’S ENCHANTED GRIDIRON GROTTO

Tuberville Is Okay With Chop Blocks
Published 10/22/2007 by Pete Holiday at FanHouse
Filed under: Auburn Football, LSU Football, SEC, NCAA FB InjuriesOf course, that's not what Coach Tuberville said when asked about the dirty play that took LSU's Glen Dorsey out of the game. What he actually said was this:"Those things happen. We do not teach it. We will not teach it," Tuberville said. "We won't tolerate it. One thing all the coaches in our league have talked about is chop blocks at the line of scrimmage and roughing the quarterback. We want the officials to call those. That should have been a 15-yard penalty. Glenn Dorsey's a great player. He's very athletic. He's one ...

Things I'm thinking about this Monday (other than work)...Ole Miss is Sofa King Bad!I came to Oxford, I saw Ole Miss/Arkansas, I sharted myself. Everything in Oxford was great except the product on the field. Ole Miss was so bad we had a Brent Schaeffer sighting under center. Ole Miss was so bad, they turned off the scoreboard and "Jumbo-tron" for a majority of the second half*. Ole Miss made Arkasas looked so unbelievablely good that Houston Nutt just got a contract extention. Well, maybe not that last one, but the others are true. Les Miles is catching all kinds of heat for going for the end zone with 10 seconds left instead of calling time out and kicking the field goal. The argument by everyone is that if the pass is incomplete, LSU would have lost. It's perfectly simple in its merits, yet wrong for all the reasons my couterpart wrote about below. If you watch the replay, it's clear that Demetrius Byrd caught the ball with four seconds left and rolled over while the clock operator inexplicably let three more seconds run off the clock. Had the ball been batted down, there likely would have been at least two, maybe three seconds left. Granted, the previous play ...
Auburn Chop Block Uncalled and Uncalled For During LSU Game
Published 10/23/2007 at SPORTSbyBROOKS
CHOP BLOCK UNCALLED & UNCALLED FOR IN LSU-AU GAME: They sure fight dirty down south : The DOTHAN (AL) EAGLE throws the flag on an illegal block done by Auburn on a LSU defender during the Tigers' wild last-second win over the, um, Tigers. During a 3rd quarter play, LSU lineman Glenn Dorsey was tied up with Auburn tackle Lee Ziemba, when guard Chaz Ramsey dove for Dorsey's legs. Dorsey bent back awkwardly, and had to leave the game with a knee sprain. The chop block is an illegal maneuver, but the referees didn't call a penalty on Auburn. Even though LSU won the game, coach Les Miles was still furious with the dirty deed, saying that such cheap ...
Auburn Ridin’ Dirty: Chop Blocks

Ouch. How intentional was this? Nobody knows how long the best defensive lineman in the country, LSU’s Glenn Dorsey, is out of action, but it’s royally F’d up if you ask us. This is one of those times were you shouldn’t even waste your time listening to the PC quotes. Just watch the video.

THE TEN MOMENTS OF PURE MALICIOUS FATE, 2007: DORSEY GOES DOWN
Published 1/10/2008 by Orson Swindle at EDSBS
Remember: life’s not out to get you . Life will get you, and by “get” we mean “turn into a pile of dessicated bones buried beneath the crushing weight of the earth.” The top ten moments of malicious fate striking for 2007 await you, even if you happened to win the national title.
9. Glenn Dorsey gets chop-blocked.
Oh, sure. Be an optimist. Say it all ended well. Fine–just because fate misses with a bullet doesn’t mean it doesn’t do any damage. All the bitching about having a two-loss BCS winner would be moot if Dorsey hadn’t nearly been maimed by Auburn’s offensive ...
Cheapest Shots of the Year
Published 1/21/2008 by dawizofodds at The Wizard of Odds
Cheap shots, unfortunately, are part of football. They often go unnoticed, but with the help of reader submissions, we do our best to call attention to these despicable, cowardly acts. Once again we present the 10 finalists for the Cheapest Shot of 2007. You get one vote, so review the plays carefully. Texas A&M's Kellen Heard was a runaway choice as having the cheapest shot of 2006 for a late hit on Texas quarterback Colt McCoy. In no particular order, here are the finalists along with a link to the original post. 1. An unidentified Western Kentucky player cuts down Bowling Green ...
Top 25 NFL Draft prospect rankings
Published 2/7/2008 by Rickhouse at Tremendous Upside Potential
Pre-combine rankings. Check out last years here. 1. DT Glen Dorsey, LSU Rating: 96 Dorsey proved all season long that he was the best player in the country, even after this cheap shot against Auburn. Quick and powerful, Dorsey isn’t the type of 340 lb slob like Ted Washington or Jamal Williams. Rather, he’s in the Tommie Harris mold, being able to generate consistent pass rush from the middle of the line. 2. RB Darren McFadden, Arkansas Rating: 94 A dynamic runner that many consider to be an even better prospect then Adrian Peterson was last year. He’s tall (6’2), fast, and didn’t take too many hits in ...
Black and Blue Draft Issues

Printable version Black and Blue Draft Issues 4/24/2008 by Will Carroll It’s time to take a look at injured prospects heading into the draft. Bill Barnwell and Doug Farrar pointed me in the right direction, and I worked my sources to find out what teams are watching for as they head into draft day. Teams aren’t working blind or hoping. As I wrote in Pro Football Prospectus 2007 , teams not only check these players out head to toe at the Combine or predraft workouts, but players and their agents work hard to manage the flow of information, hoping to spin whatever problems there are and maximize their position. That doesn’t mean there aren’t ...
Rams leaning toward Dorsey?

Update [2008-4-24 13:21:55 by VanRam]:Be sure to read 3k's take on the DT/DE/trade debate for the Rams draft. Note particularly that Carriker has beefed up to about 315, more in line with a DT than a DE, don't ya think? Ok, other than keeping an eye on the news, I don't know what else there is to say about the draft. The Rams will either pick Dorsey, Chris Long, Vernon Gholston or trade down, and trying to determine which it will be is nothing but guess work now. According to the PD today, Dorsey sits atop the Rams list of potential draft selections, but it's not written in stone just yet. It's safe to assume that they're going ...
CHOPS: A CRIME DRAMA FROM THE PLAINS

Somewhere in this city, there’s a man who fights beasts in the dark to keep them from ruining the perfect sunshine of your safe life. A white knight stained with the red blood of an endless fight he knows he’ll never win.
This is not that cop.
His name is Tommy Tuberville, but you can call him what everyone else does: CHOPS.
Scene: A police office. Shitty coffee. Shitty ties. Quality people. In comes CHOPS. He’s wearing a grey suit, black tie, and heavy overcoat we call a ...
