Top Shelf: Begging for a Competitive Series
Published 4/28/2008 by TheBigLead at The Big Lead
Lee Diekemper recaps the night in the NHL playoffs. Pittsburgh 2, New York 0: After a shaky start to begin the series, Marc-Andre Fleury shined Sunday. He not only turned away all 26 shots from the Rangers, he even tangled with Client No. 16 not willing to put up with Mr. Evil’s shenanigans. Caution: The Pens haven’t won in The Garden this season. Pittsburgh leads series 2-0.

PENGUINS 2 RANGERS 0 We can't get too caught up around here in the euphoria of Rashard Mendenhall and Limas Sweed if only for the reason that there's some championship-caliber hockey being played at Mellon Arena. And the fans were treated to another world-class exhibit of such hockey on Sunday as the ...

A Look Inside Penguins Vs. Rangers

I have a million thoughts racing through my head regarding the series between the Penguins and the Rangers. I figured I might as well voice some of them since everyone and their mother seems to have an opinion on this series. So away we go! ...

Hal Gill Rules

Gill anchored a solid defensive showing in Game 2, but his efforts were nearly negated ...

Pens prepare for Avery's antics
Petr Sykora and the Pittsburgh Penguins have gotten just a glimpse of the Sean Avery who was the talk of the New York Rangers ' first-round series. Tuesday, they expect to see a lot more. Perhaps the last seconds of Sunday's game foreshadowed just how things will go. After the Penguins scored an empty-netter, Avery planted himself in front of Marc-Andre Fleury 's crease, clearly irritating ...
Fleury has been star of postseason so far
via Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: They say big Penguins defenseman Hal Gill isn’t exactly fleet of skate. You could have fooled me. He looked like Fast Willie Parker yesterday when he went after New York Rangers pest Sean Avery at the end of the Penguins’ 2-0 win. “He took a whack at [Marc-Andre] Fleury,” Gill said. “I didn’t think that was right.”  ...
Brendan Shanahan Does His Best Sean Avery Impression
No, no he didn't turtle, he took a page from Avery's book in trying to screen Marc-Andre Fleury. TSN has the video highlights. Now, I'm one who thinks the "Avery Rule" is ridiculous. When I first saw him doing that, I thought it was brilliant and wondered why it hadn't happened more often. As long as the player in front is not physically interfering with the goaltender, it shouldn't be ...
