Charles Barkley: No More Gambling (Video)
Published 5/20/2008 by Jeanette at RightFielders Women in Sports
During the TNT pre-game show before the San Antonio/New Orleans deciding Game 7, Charles Barkley sat down with Ernie Johnson and discussed his gambling problem. See the video below. Ernie Johnson told Barkley, “Charles, we need to talk.” Sir Charles went on to explain the $400,000 gambling debt to The Wynn Las Vegas Casino and Resort. “I screwed up and didn’t pay them in a significant amount of time. Could they have handled it differently? Yes. But it was my fault.” The Wynn filed a complaint ...
Charles Barkley gives up gambling
Published 5/20/2008 by EnriqueFed (noreply@blogger.com) at ALL THINGS PHILLY SPORTS
After the news came out last week that he owed $400,000 to a Vegas casino, Charles Barkley has decided to quit gambling, at least for now. During the pregame show for the TNT broadcast of Monday's game between the Spurs and Hornets, Barkley announced that he was "not going to gamble anymore. For right now, the next year or two, I'm not going to gamble." Barkley said that he doesn't have any money problems and that he has payed back the debt he owes, but he wants to take a break from gambling. Sounds like a smart plan to me, considering how many millions of dollars Barkley has likely lost over the years. The man definitely ...

... the debt, but he's sworn off gambling for the foreseeable future. Said Barkley, "Just because I can afford to lose money, don't mean I should do it. ... It was a pain when it broke last week, but it's going to turn into a good thing. I'm not going to gamble anymore." It's his money, and by all accounts all that he's ever lost has been part of his discretionary income, but I don't think anyone can argue that he's not making a wise decision. Charles Barkley Talks Gambling with Ernie Johnson
Published 5/20/2008 at FanIQ Blog
Last night before the soul sucking game seven between New Orleans and San Antonio, Charles Barkley had a 1-on-1 with Ernie Johnson to discuss his gambling issues.
Sir Gambling Debt admitted he has a problem and said he won't be betting anymore and that he's paid his debt in full.
I give him credit for being open and honest about his issue and that just because he has money to lose, that shouldn't be an excuse for him.
However, while Charles begins by saying he'll never gamble again he slowly backtracks to explain "it's not like he's an alcoholic and ...

The Surest Sign Barkley Soon To Run For Governor
Published 5/20/2008 by Tuffy at SPORTSbyBROOKS
The voracious appetites of Charles Barkley came under fire again last week when Steve Wynn’s casino came knocking for four $100,000 markers owed by Barkley . Pressed on the matter last night before TNT’s Spurs-Hornets Game 7 broadcast, Barkley told compatriot Ernie Johnson that the markers had been paid ( though this has not been verified yet ) and that he would give up gambling “ for the next year or two .” Charles Barkley poker massage (So much for being the first to install Craps table in Bama Governor’s Mansion ) Don’t give in, Charles! Charles Barkley Says He Will Stop Gambling, Starting ... NOW [Wanna Bet?]
Published 5/20/2008 by Rick Chandler at Deadspin
Charles Barkley sat down with Ernie Johnson on the TNT set on Monday night before Game 7 of the Spurs-Hornets series, and declared before one and all that he is done with gambling. But for those wondering if the pledge will take, just watch the interview: It seemingly takes Charles only about a minute to begin wavering, going from "I'm not going to gamble anymore," to "I'm going to stop gambling for right now," to "Who knows how long it's going to last? Hopefully for the next year or two."
OK, it wasn't exactly an intervention. But, unlike the Las Vegas Casino Workers Union, I ...
Charles Barkley Is Never Going to Gamble Again, Or At Least Not This Week, Maybe Saturday
Published 5/20/2008 by Fornelli (noreply@blogger.com) at Foul Balls
By now I'm sure you've heard about Charles Barkley and the $400,000 he owes the Wynn Casino in Las Vegas . Apparently the folks at TNT thought it was such a big deal that they made Charles do this sit down with Ernie Johnson before last night's game seven. For some reason I just don't believe Charles when he says he's not going to gamble anymore. Maybe it's the fact that a few seconds later he says he's not going to gamble right now, or that he's not going to gamble for a year or two, I just don't see the conviction. Though I should also point out that I could care less if Charles gambles. Do you know how much money the man probably has? When ...
Barkley says he’s repaid debt; DA hasn’t seen check

Via the Las Vegas Sun: Maybe Charles Barkley meant that the check is in the mail.
On his pregame NBA show on the TNT cable network Monday evening, Barkley told
the show’s host, Ernie Johnson, he has paid back the $400,000 he owed Wynn Las
Vegas.
In a response to a story first reported in the Las Vegas Sun last week,
Barkley also told Johnson that as a result of the controversy, he is giving up
gambling.
Apparently, the truth of both of Barkley’s statements remains to be seen.
Immediately after Barkley’s assertions, District Attorney David Roger said:

The Barkley gambling story: fun for us, horrrrible for the NBA
Published 5/20/2008 by John Ryan at Morning Buzz
Charles Barkley kicked off TNT’s “Inside The NBA” studio show last night by saying, in the wake of the Wynn casino’s $400,000 lawsuit against him, he’s done gambling. “They have been paid. I screwed up, 100 percent my fault.” He went on and on. Regarding his first two sentences, there’s no disagreement on the second part, but there’s apparently some confusion over the first, as the casino and the DA’s office say there has been no payment ...

Barkley: I Won’t Gamble Anymore
Published 5/21/2008 by Anthony Hall at MVN Outsider
As you’ve likely heard, the Wynn Las Vegas casino filed a civil complaint against Charles Barkley, alleging that he failed to make payments on a $400,000 loan the casino gave him on October 18th and 19th of last year. A check was sent Monday by Barkley to the casino’s collections department, but still, this issue has called attention to Barkely’s seemingly reckless gambling habits.
A 2007 report from ESPN.com stated that Barkley has lost about $10 million gambling over the years; in addition, the TNT analyst has admitted to gambling away $2.5 million in a six-hour period one night.

What would we do without Sir Gambling Debt around? I learn to appreciate him more every day, with each added pound and each added dollar in debt.
You remember this interview with Ernie Johnson, after it was made public that Charles Barkley owed a Vegas casino $400,000 in gambling losses they had lent to him. At that point, Charles made it clear he had a problem and that he would never gamble again. Then his claim turned into at least a couple years.
Turns out he only lasted two months.

But how about the well-rested Pistons getting 4.5 tonight? That's not a gamble, that's a lock.
