straight.bangin That was an egregious foul. Period. And even if it had only netted two free throws, it should have been called.
But it only "decided the game" because San Antonio is gritty, experienced, and still a capable team. These Spurs don't have the talent or depth of the Lakers, and that was apparent again last night. So really, kudos to San Antonio for even making it so close.

tziller Good point re: making it close. I still don't think the non-call was too terrible, though. I know my favorite two-guard wouldn't get the call.-
straight.bangin Mine would have gotten the call and it wouldn't have mattered, as he'd simply see his team lose to Utah. Again.

The Zoner You have to call that. The defender bit on the fake and fouled him. And they also might have gave him continuation. Regardless of that, the Spurs were at home and they shouldn't have let it come to that. -
ethanator1088 Foul. There was a foul. I saw it right there. That was a foul! -
ummfada NOT a foul, the team is a flopper team so they would know best, they all remarked that it's not a foul. You must jump into the defender after he bites on the pump fake. Boo-Hoo a flopper team didn't a foul they deserve, think of the fouls the Spurs "created" over the years. The refs CAN'T call that a foul in that spot! -
LABallTalk The play was clearly a foul. I being one of the biggest fan of the Lakers can admit it. But there are too many problems with calling the foul in that situation. Take a look at my complete thoughts at www.LABallTalk.com -
ethanator1088 The play was a foul. The question is if it should have been called. The answer is yes. You call fouls. It is a rule. The time on the clock does not matter.

Not the story of the night. But still... Since Straight Bangin' took up residence on its own internet, it's been an unapologetic admirer of the San Antonio Spurs. That the Spurs are so popular in this precinct of the interwebs is almost poetic, as the team, at once nothing and everything that there is to love about basketball, captures an ambivalence that runs through much of the SB curriculum. Hate that ignorant rap music, love that Cam'ron; hate those stereotypes, love those comedic generalizations; hate that Prodigy, love his blog. The Spurs are horrible for ...

The frustration over Game 4’s missed opportunity is a thing of the past. Everything that needed to be said… has been said. Now, I’m hopping on board with the others (like Chuck) who accurately noted that the Pistons played a great game 4 while the Celts looked like crap… and we STILL had a chance to steal that game on the ...
Refs blow foul call in Spurs/Lakers game: Derek Fisher got away with one

Ok so if you are a Spurs fan you are probably irate right now that your team is down 3-1 in this series.
During the final moments of last nights game the refs blew a call that would’ve at least given the Spurs to the chance to tie the game. Brent Barry got the inbound pass and he does a pump fake to catches Derek Fishers of guard, Fisher jumps up and comes down on Barry but they didn’t make the foul call.
Watching the play, it was clearly a foul.

How can there not be a foul on this?

I keep reading that Brent Barry didn’t do a good job of selling the foul and am so infuriated that my neighbor has 9-1-1 on speed dial. Isn’t one of the big problems in the NBA that players sell fouls? How many more articles about flopping and poor officiating do I have to write before this message resonates with the masses?
Brent Barry should not have to sell fouls; his job is to play basketball and hit shots, which is what he was attempting to do. It was a great head fake by Barry, and he actually tries to avoid the contact, but gets walloped on the side. It should have been two free ...
NBA On TNT Playoff Notes: “It was a foul, but (Brent Barry) didn’t sell it.”

Lakers head coach Phil Jackson and Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich talked to TNT prior to Game #4
Jackson on San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili’s performance in Game #3: “The impact that (Manu) Ginobili had in the last 18 minutes of the first half (of Game 3) was tremendous. Every time we’d come back, he’d hit a three. We matched scores for a while and obviously, at the end of the half, we fell behind and ...

On What Happened While WWOD? Was Away Fighting Aliens With Indy ...on the Brent Barry no-call at the end of Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals: For what it's worth, I sat there that night knowing that it was a two-shot foul on the floor. Barry wasn't in the act of shooting when Fisher clobbered him. If he had been then he would have had three potentially game-winning shots to take. But, it was a foul on the floor and Barry should have had the chance to tie the game, forcing overtime. However, the referees swallowed their whistles and the Lakers won the game. The NBA released a statement a few days later agreeing ...

Maybe you get that in the 2nd quarter... not to end a game. Regardless, it wouldn't have been in the act, so the Spurs could have only tied at best.
And don't you think the Spurs would have complained a little more angrily if they really thought it was a bad call. Bad protest effort from Barry there.
