L.A. Times Columnist Really Wants Elton Brand to Remain a Clipper
Published 7/7/2008 by Brett Edwards at FanHouse
Filed under: Clippers, NBA Media Watch, NBA Rumors, NBA VideosIt's not every day that you see tenured sports columnists making pleas -- on camera -- to a team's superstar that could possibly be skipping town for more money as a free agent. But that's exactly what we have here, as L.A. Times writer Bill Plaschke makes an impassioned (if somewhat odd) little video asking Elton Brand to remain a Clipper. Is it really that serious? I wasn't thinking that Brand would actually leave once Baron Davis signed, and after all, Baron ...

Here's an interesting question about the C.C. Sabathia trade: Is this trade actually good for either team? The answer may be no. [I'm Writing Sports]
This is rather hilarious. The creator of The Wire absolutely loathes Bud Selig. [The Big Lead]
Send Ozzie Guillen enough emails, and he'll eventually mock you to no end. [Deadspin]
Newcastle United could be sold to the Bin Laden family. Yikes. [The Spoiler]
Brian Bosworth, of all people, helped save a woman's life. He unfortunately couldn't save his movie career as well. [SPORTSbyBROOKS]

Bill Plaschke Pleads Elton Brand To Stay A Clipper Via Youtube
Published 7/7/2008 by Awful Announcing- (noreply@blogger.com) at Awful Announcing
Bill Plaschke really wants Elton Brand to stay in L.A. and for some reason he decided to make a creepy Youtube video to get his attention. From Fanhouse via SLAM.... This is close to the oddest Youtube video I've ever seen and in a medium that has Kige Ramsey you know that's saying a lot. I'm not sure but I think it's pretty unprecedented for a city's columnist to openly call out a player when he's trying to sign a contract. Oh and Elton, you don't owe crap to the Clippers. Do what you want to do. L.A. Times Columnist Really Wants Elton ...
Bill Plaschke Knows What’s Best For Elton Brand
Published 7/7/2008 by Harvey Bars at Tirico Suave
Watching Plaschke take time off from writing one sentence paragraphs to hijack the set of a pancreatic cancer PSA and spittle his way through this godawful plea to Elton Brand asking him to stay with the Clippers has caused me to break the mute button from my Around The Horn: The Home Edition game. Points of interest: 1. If the LA Times were building a dreamteam-esque staff of truly insufferable sports writers and say, offered Jay Mariotti some ridiculous deal and in turn the Chicago Sun-Times offered Plaschke substantially more money than the LA Times initially had, Plaschke would turn his back L.A. in millisecond. (And what a truly ...
Elton Brand, Bill Plaschke, Michael Strahan and me
Published 7/7/2008 by Neil Best at Watchdog
I wish my Tribune teammate (for now), Bill Plaschke of the L.A. Times, would have thought of this before Michael Strahan retired.
Then I could have copied him and tried to talk Strahan out of retiring and thus costing me my bet with Schwartz of the Post that Old No. 92 would play in 2009.
Sigh. Back to vacation.
LA Times' Bill Plaschke embarrasses himself....again
Published 7/8/2008 by Josh Nason (noreply@blogger.com) at Small White Ball
Seriously, Bill? Seriously? The role of a journalist is (ideally) to be an impartial observer to the world and to report on news, not make it. As our world has devolved over the years, what a journalist is supposed to be has devolved with it, especially in sports. It's not enough to report: you have to be a star. You have to cross mediums and you have to take sides. Athletes take offense when you don't favor them and who doesn't want to be buddy-buddy with a multi-millionaire? This, however, is desperate. LA Times "sportswriter" Bill Plaschke, he of the claims that Paul Pierce faked his knee injury, is now pleading with players to ...
Bill Plaschke thinks local
Published 7/8/2008 by Kelly Dwyer at Ball Don't Lie
You may have seen this already, but familiarity does little
to detract from the oddity that is Los Angeles Times columnist Bill Plaschke
publicly begging free agent Elton Brand to re-sign with the Los Angeles
Clippers.
It's just strange on so many levels.
I'm not going to kill Plaschke for supposedly breaking some
pathetic tenet of sports "journalism," and acting the part of a sniveling
homer.
It is 2008, we've safely established that "sportswriter" is
a better fit for the business card than "sports ...

Nolan Ryan Offers Congratulations to #54
Published 7/9/2008 by Sturminator (noreply@blogger.com) at Bob's Blog - Live from Lewisville
OK! With all due respect to Brian Sikorski (who Josh Lewin cited last night to I guess tell us to simmer down on rushing to buy our Home #54 Matt Harrison Jerseys), Matt Harrison doesn’t look like a 1-start wonder. I have no idea what to make of him, and he certainly doesn’t satisfy my everlasting thirst for strikeouts, but he looks like a pitcher. That was nice, and then the work of the bullpen was good (Eddie) and shaky – yet effective (CJ). Sprinkle in a Homer from Crush Davis and 2 RBI from Hobbs, and you have a nice 3-2 win. And now you hand the ball to Michael Ballard. Kind of Surprised ...

Bill Plaschke on Elton Brand -What an punk. He and teh entire LA Clippers followers should throw this guy to teh curb. Baron went back on his word and he is praising him.
Though I do not think ELton will leave, I do want to state the obvious. Clippers will not go anywhere. I love Baron for what he did withthe Warriors, but soon clipper fan will see what price they are really paying, as this will lock you guys down for the next 5 years.
If I am Elton, I know I will not win with the Clippers and that thisis my final contract. the only reson I woudl consider staying is because he woudl like to keep pursuing his film making career and that is the only reason. Other than that why woudl he not leave??
He has a better shot at winning with the warriors
Bill Plaschke is crying like a little B*****. I do not hear him saying Baron went back on his word and believe me Baron was HUGE in the BayArea, he was not king--HE was the emperor here.
Elton a GSW sounds nice, but a long shot
