Video: Billy Crystal's At-Bat For The Yankees
Published 3/13/2008 by Awful Announcing- at Awful Announcing
I must say that I was pretty darn impressed with Mr. Saturday Night's lead off at-bat for the Yankees this afternoon. He fouled off a nice pitch and worked the count to 3-1 before getting two nasty cut fastballs from the Pirates' Paul Maholm. Here's the video if you don't mind crappy audio and picture quality (I'll replace later).... Very Corey Patterson-like. Get the count to 3-1 and swing for the fences as a lead off hitter. Prepare for ESPN to cut into the Marquette-Notre Dame game about 20 times to show you this.
The mighty Billy Crystal has struck out
Published 3/13/2008 at Big League Stew
For those of you who thought Billy Crystal's run with the Yankees was going to spell the end of baseball as we know it, I have a question for you. That wasn't so bad, was it? Actually, watching Crystal was a lot of fun on an otherwise routine Thursday. Crystal didn't have to wait long get his fantasy on and then get out of the way for the real ballplayers. The soon-to-be-60-year-old comedian led off the bottom of the first inning as the team's designated hitter (not "designated Hebrew," as Crystal himself suggested on Wednesday) and worked the count to 3-1 before striking out against Pittsburgh lefty Paul Maholm. ...
60-year-old Billy Crystal bats leadoff for the Yankees
Published 3/13/2008 by DCScrap at on 205th magazine: Stuff Guys Like. [Pop Culture For Men]
Let's just say that he won't be batting leadoff again (or anywhere else in the lineup) any time soon. On second thought, he might be an improvement over Juan Uribe at second base for my White Sox. Big ups to the ever-vigilant Awful Announcing ...
Billy Crystal Is Old, Not Good at Hitting
Published 3/13/2008 at The Sporting Blog
By Chris Mottram This whole nonsense about the Yanks signing Billy Crystal to a contract so he can live some dream of his has just been ridiculous from the start. Obviously, the Yankees don't take spring training too seriously. Well, seriously enough to start brawls ...
Billy Crystal Strikes Out In New York Yankees Plate Appearance
Published 3/13/2008 at FanIQ Blog
The much anticipated (no, not really) Billy Crystal fantasy camp day turned into an actual at bat. I have to admit I didn't think that was actually going to happen.
He actually faired quite well for a 60-year-old whose only tool is comedy.
Crystal took the count to 3-1, showing more discipline than Jose "Windmill" Hernandez. Crystal made contact with the second pitch he saw from Paul Maholm. All in all, I'm quite impressed. ...
Billy Crystal Strikes Out (Video)
Published 3/13/2008 by MCCAIN at RightFielders Women in Sports
Here is the video of Billy Crystal at bat for the New York Yankees. He batted first in a spring training Cactus League game in Arizona. To everyone’s surprise, Crystal looked comfortable at the plate. He swaggered into the batting box with a mouthful of chewing tobacco (or was it gum?), tapped his cleats with the bat, and began waving his bat menacingly over the head like someone who has done this before. Actually Billy Crystal has done this before. He played college baseball and has been a lifelong baseball fan. The Yankees are in his blood. He fouled off the 1-0 pitch and surprisingly ran the count to 3-1. The camera cut to Joe Torre who ...
Video: Billy Crystal Goes Down Swinging
Published 3/14/2008 by Anthony Hall at MVN Outsider
It’s been an eventful few days of Spring Training for the Yankees…on Wednesday, a bench-clearing brawl in the Yanks-Rays game resulted in five ejections, and earlier today, 59-year-old Billy Crystal stepped up to the plate for the Yankees against Pittsburgh lefty Paul Maholm:
Well, you’ve gotta give him credit for even making contact during his at bat — and really, he did a helluva lot better than I expected him to do in his first and only plate appearance. He worked the count pretty well, and could have drawn a walk with a tad more discipline. Besides, even fouling off a ball down the ...
Your Obligatory Billy Crystal Video
Published 3/14/2008 by mondesishouse at Mondesishouse.com
And finally, we can put a wrap on the Billy Crystal circus. He did manage to make contact against Paul Maholm, but struck out after dramatically running the count to 3-1, saving Maholm's career in the process. After his lone plate appearance, New York fans then showered Crystal in boos, saying he's not a "True Yankee". Crystal was replaced by Johnny Damon, who wowed the fans with an o-for-3, three men left on base performance. ...
Home video: Billy Crystal has a ball

Tell you what: I don't like the headlines I'm seeing so far covering Billy Crystal's foray into New York Yankee pinstripes today . "Crystal strikes out in new career," says the AP . "Billy Crystal takes his swing at midlife crisis," says Newsday . "Retire Crystal, not jersey numbers," sniffs the New Daily News' Daily Blahg . Hello? This was a spring training game that Crystal played in. As long as no one gets hurt or maimed, it didn't matter. And if you watch this home video shot from the stands today, it seems like everyone's having a good time: In fact, ask fans of pretty much any team today what caught their interest ...

Billy Crystal Vs The Buccos, Video Evidence
Published 3/14/2008 by Thejim at sportsocracy [dot] org
How much pressure is Paul Maholm under right here. I mean, if he walks him, it’s ridiculous - if he gives up a hit, even more ridiculous - if he ear holes him, I’d personally finance a tickertape parade for him through the streets of Pittsburgh.
I guess getting him to strikeout swinging was an acceptable compromise though.

Detroit Defeat
Published 3/14/2008 by Sturminator at Bob's Blog - Live from Lewisville
Well, I said yesterday on the show that it wasn’t about the final score, it was about looking at the teams and wondering if the Stars had what it took to play the Red Wings straight up. Uh. Not great results again. Yes, a 3-1 lead late in the 2nd Period gave you the distinct impression that the worm had turned. And then, it did. The wrong way. The Red Wings shifted to another gear. And the meltdowns started. A bad turnover. A bad effort from Turco on the opening goal of the 3rd. An inability to stop the bleeding. And another crushed effort in Detroit. The more things change, the more they stay the ...
