Modern Tube: Yankee Stadium's last Opening Day roll call
Published 4/2/2008 at Big League Stew
After watching this particularly great Bleacher Creature roll call from last night's home opener, is there any question it's going to be a memorable last season in Yankee Stadium? I'm not even a Yankee fan and this almost has me opening my wallet as far as it can stretch to make sure I'm there at least once this year. (The subdued reaction once they reach A-Rod at third never gets old, does it?)

For the final time....

The last roll call from the Bleacher Creatures in Yankee Stadium. This never gets old. Thanks to Big League Stew for finding this.

SOMETHING YANKEE RELATED

As a mortal enemy of the New York Yankees and everything Bronx (cesspool) related it takes everything I have to actually write this, and give credit that this is pretty cool. One of their traditions is to chant the name of each Yankee fielder when their squad takes the field in the first inning, and to continue their chant until each player acknowledges them. Take a peaksie: OK, I was gonna say that this tradition seems ...

The Door Shuts On A Sports Mecca

Yankee Stadium is, for all intensive purposes, a concrete history book.  It’s role in shaping sports in America is unrivaled by anything built in our country’s history.  Since its’ construction, 20% of all World Series games have been played there.  Think about that, let that marinade for a second.  Legends such as Ruth, Mantle, Gehrig, DiMaggio, and Berra used to call this home.  It’s where men like Jeter, Brosius, and Boone have launched moon shots into the history books.  It’s where Mr. October was coined, where the great Reggie Jackson hit three home runs in three consecutive pitches.  It’s where the first ...

Mike Mussina wasn’t bad but he wasn’t nearly as good as A.J. Burnett and the Yankees were beaten by the Blue Jays. Brian Heyman has the story. Jorge Posada is out with a stiff shoulder. This notebook also has some Toronto thoughts on Joba, a Blue Jay with the flu and an ill-timed call for Morgan Ensberg. I’m taking a few days off, but the blog will roll on with lineups ...
