WHY IS IT, THAT FLORIDA EITHER GETS TO DISCIPLINE ITSELF AND THE NCAA AND SEC ALMOST ALWAYS SAY "WHAT A PROGRAM".  OTHER SCHOOLS GET SANCTIONED OR PLAYERS ARE SUSPENDED FOR A GREAT CHUNK, IF NOT THE WHOLE SEASON.  COME ON, THE REST OF OF SEE THIS AND ARE TIRED OF DOUBLE STANDARDS.  LET'S TRY TO BE FAIR IN THE FUTURE.

No need for eye gouging, Brandon Spikes. You're better than that!
Gator Clause — GAINESVILLE -- For the second season in a row, Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes had an amazing game against Georgia. He had 10 tackles and an interception return for a touchdown on Saturday. All that hard work will probably be overshadowed by one dirty play, though. Check out this YouTube.com video that is circulating among college football fans. While gang ...

Superlatives: Trick or treat, it's TCU
Dr. Saturday — Snap judgments on Saturday's best. Teachers' Pet: TCU. Outscoring their last three opponents by a combined score of 123-13, including a 41-0 shutout against UNLV, the Horned Frogs are the latest in BCS-bustin' technology and making a loud case for their inclusion at the cool kids' table come January. Most School Spirit: Jeremiah Masoli. Nursing a bum knee that even he admitted wasn't at full strength earlier in the week, and facing down his team's most ostensibly fearsome rivals, Oregon's quarterback led the Ducks to a 47-20 rout of USC. ...

Brandon Spikes Will Gouge Your Eye Out
Friends of the Program — The ability to see is clearly an formidable advantage on the football field. To neutralize said ability would be a gain for one’s opponent. So it looks like Brandon Spikes is probably going to have to dig around inside your helmet to try and pop your eyeball. BUT in his defense, he doesn’t really look like someone who would intentially ...

Video of Florida’s Brandon Spikes trying to gouge out Georgia player’s eyes
40 Acres Sports — Check out this pretty incriminating video of Florida’s linebacker Brandon Spikes sticking his hands into the face mask of a Georgia player. The Dark Art Of Dirty Play (Now with a suspension update!)
Alligator Army — [Update 1pm] Spikes gets suspended for the first half against Vandy by Meyer. See, this is why the SEC actually has to do something. Meyer is damned if he does, damned if he don't. This is like getting in a fight at school because someone makes fun of your Mom and coming home to your Dad not being mad at you. I'd expect the SEC to step in and make it a full gamer. Also, Evil Tim Tebow makes an appearance in the article. Spikes appeared to be retaliating after Georgia players pulled off his helmet on two occasions in Florida's 41-17 win in Jacksonville. Said Tebow of the incident: "We didn't ...

Florida’s Spikes suspended for eye-gouging
Digital Sports Daily — Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes has been suspended for the first half of the Vanderbilt game for eye gouging a Georgia player Saturday. Spokes was caught by a CBS camera eye gouging Georgia freshmen running back Washaun Ealey in the 3rd quarter of the Gators 41-17 win Saturday. The video can be seen on here. The bottom line is that Spikes and Florida don’t need to play dirty to win, the Gators were up 31-10 on the Bulldogs at that point.

The Weekend That Was College Football: Week 9
Sparty and Friends — Week 9 is in the books.  The upsets were afew, but the solid college football was aplenty.  Gather ’round and listen up… I would offer a handshake, but I got USC’s defense all over my hands…I cannot figure out for the life of me why the media completely blew off how downright awful the USC defense was Saturday night. The Brandon Spikes eye-gouge
John Clay's Sidelines — In case you haven’t seen, here’s YouTube video of the Brandon Spikes’ eye-gouge. The Florida linebacker has been suspended for the first half of Florida’s game with Vanderbilt on Saturday.

An eye for an eye
Red Renee — The punishment for the act depicted below from Florida Linebacker Brandon Spikes (# 51)? A half-game suspension. Not even necessarily a half a game either if the thing goes into overtime (not likely). Against a 2-5 Vanderbilt team, a full game suspension would have been more than easy to hand out. Way to take the pillowy soft road on this one Urb, even if Spikes was retaliating. Brings back memories of OSU Linbebacker Robert Reynolds and his throat gouging incident. He got a game suspension from Tress for that; so much for Tress being soft on crime. You’re ...

Thoughts on the Vicious Eye Gouger! (inject mild sarcasm here)
The Legend of Cecilio Guante — This is Brandon Spikes. Doer of evil. Blight on all of collegiate football. Gouger of eyes. Sinner of sinners. At least that's what much of America would like you to believe. Spikes is an unconscionable thug, a "criminal" and deserving of "jail time" for trying to "blind a man." These are things I read today in various places on the Interwebs, apparently from actual human beings. People are passionate about college football in parts of this country to a degree that is absolutely frightening. I understand this. Yet, still, it does not merit the fire-breathing debate flaring on this one. I almost want to punch myself for writing about it, ...

Five Things I Think
Thoughts from the Jockstrap — Again, I must admit that I clearly ripped this idea off from Peter King. Here are five things I think:   1. Not much would be better than seeing an NBA Finals matchup of the Celtics and the Lakers – provided that both teams are completely healthy. The last two NBA champions, the total number of titles, the rivalry, the talent on both teams, the defense… It would be amazing. Baseball missed out on having a Dodgers-Yankees world series this year that would have drawn more interest than the current matchup, and I only hope the NBA doesn’t suffer the same fate and have the Magic vs. the Spurs or something. The Celtics and Lakers each have five guys who ...

Florida Punishes Spikes For One-Half Of Vandy Game, SEC Accepts Ruling
Obsessed With Sports — This is one of those incidents that had to marinate in my head. I couldn’t wrap my mind around this one at first. This incident is just awful. There is no excuse for this type of action. I understand the old school football mentality but that is long out the window. Bill Romanowski is long retired, there is not longer a need for pulling hair, twisting fingers and groin shots in the pile. I have always said that basketball and football players have gotten a bit softer in the last decade or two. I have to assume some correlation with the new found riches that these players have ...

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: Week 9 Edition
In The Bleachers - A College Football Blog and Podcast — What a weekend as I trekked through the Windy City. I saw some bad football, plenty of people without an understanding of why Florida-Georgia is called the "Cocktail Party" and weather that made me truly miserable. Between watching the Illinois-Michigan game and having to hear plenty of comments about how Florida is overrated and the Big Ten gets no respect I was capable of making it out of Chi-Town alive. As always we've got plenty of ugly to choose from as the college football world is not limited in displays of the putrid. You better believe there is enough from every conference to go around and then some. As for the nation as a ...

Poll dancing, week 9: I believe some apologies are in order.
Hey Jenny Slater. — I apologize to you, the reader, for incompetently composed BlogPoll and SEC Power Poll ballots based on what little information I can remember through the haze of nearly a half a bottle of George Dickel No. 12 during the Cocktail Party game on Saturday. But y'all are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to people to whom I owe apologies, a group that includes, though is not exclusive to, my mom and dad; all three of our dogs; Holly; the Georgia coaching staff; any of the little kids who came to our house for Halloween candy; Mrs. Wilkes from down the street; that cop in the Tahoe on Macon Road; all of the employees ...

Hats off to the 'other guys'
SEC Chatter — Hats off to the 'other guys' By Paul Gattis -- The Huntsville Times November 03, 2009, 9:09PM rodney scott AP Ole Miss running back Rodney Scott (on ground in white jersey) was an unsung hero for not moving after injured Zac Etheridge fell on him. There was an ample amount of discouraging news from the weekend of SEC football, so much that we've gone in search -- and successfully found -- some good news. The SEC certainly needs it. Let's start with the eye-gouging incident. You've seen the video , you've heard about the half-game suspension and how insulting such a suspension is to the rest of the world. But now, some good news. ...

Brandon Spikes to serve full game suspension
Digital Sports Daily — Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post reports that Florida Gators linebacker Brandon Spikes says he should sit out entire Vanderbilt game for his actions in last Saturdays game against Georgia. Florida has also confirmed that Spikes will serve a full game suspension Saturday against Vanderbilt. In a video on the website Youtube, Spikes is seen attempting to eye-gouge a Georgia’s Washaun Ealey in a pileup. Florida head coach Urban Meyer said earlier in the week that Spikes was retaliating for being poked in the eye earlier in the game and suspended the linebacker for the first half of the Vanderbilt game.

This Week In Half-Hearted Apologies: Brandon Spikes

SEC: Tim Tebow Getting Lit Up Must Not Be Seen
The Sporting Blog — So the SEC backed itself into a corner after weeks of officiating outrage by announcing that any coach who suggested the refs in the league were anything but perfect robotic paragons of justice would get a fine or a suspension. This was probably a good idea after even Vandy's Bobby Johnson got uppity. Then Urban Meyer, spurred by the firestorm over the Brandon Spikes eye-gouging extravaganza, had a complaint or two about chippy play from the Gators, most prominently an obvious unnecessary roughness call on Tim Tebow after a handoff: "That should have been a penalty in my opinion," Meyer said. ...
