Brawl Breaks Out in WNBA Game
Published 7/23/2008 by noreply@blogger.com (FLCeltsFan) at LOY's PLACE a celtics green blog
There is something about Detroit basketball that incites riots. First there was the Pacers-Pistons brawl and now the women are getting in on the act as a Detroit Shock and LA Sparks game turned ugly in the final seconds. A collision between the Sparks' ...
I Went To A WNBA Game And A Brawl Broke Out

Rick Mahorn shoves Lisa Leslie during the fracas.
Well I really didn’t go to the game but at the end of tonight’s Detroit Shock vs Los Angeles Sparks game, a bench-clearing brawl broke out. And we thought that these type of brawls only happened in men’s sports.
Here’s the video action from ESPN. ...
The Detroit Bad Girls? Apparently so

I believe this is my first WNBA post. It's likely my last as well, but if this is how WNBA games end...Well, I may end up changing my my mind.
Would you expect anything less than a take on all comers, bench clearing brawl from a team coached by Bill Laimbeer and Rick Mahorn?
Way to live up to the Pistons' Bad Boys legacy, Shock!

Malice in the Palace - WNBA style

So much for the WNBA being "a place for lesbians to make out when they score." I was going to write something about the Lynx's fade back into the Western Conference pack, but wouldn't you know it--80's basketball icons turned coaches Bill Laimbeer, Rick Mahorn, and Michael Cooper got the ladies from the Shock and Sparks all worked up and playing like it was Detroit-LA circa 1989. The embedded video from ESPN may suffer from undue buffering, but it gives you a pretty comprehensive idea of what went on.
I watched most of the game, and to me the blame lies squarely on the WNBA referees, who are ...
Anyone surprised that Bill Laimbeer and Rick Mahorn are now fighting with girls?
Published 7/23/2008 by Billy Krumb at Clubhouse Cancer
Where are Zeke & The Worm when you need ‘em? The best part is when asshole Laimbeer says that Mahorn is known as a ‘peacemaker’. Tell that to Scottie Pippen, dickhead. If there is anyone in sports we despise more than Rick Mahorn, it’s Bill motherfucking Laimbeer. Slink off the court without shaking hands lately, ...
David Stern REALLY Has Image Problems Now: Brawl Breaks Out Between the Sparks and Shock

Generally speaking, the WNBA makes front page news for only one rea– actually, the WNBA generally doesn’t make front page news, no matter what the story. That’s assuming, of course, said story isn’t about the sort of massive, bench clearing brawl centering around LA’s star rookie Candace Parker and involving players and coaches from both teams that took place Tuesday night in Detroit ...

This and every weekday let's rise and shine together with the latest and greatest happenings in the majors. Today's Roll Call begins with a phirst-place phace-off at Shea, where a comfy three-run lead for Nueva York phaded to dust during an apoplectic and apocalyptic ninth. Mets phireman Billy Wagner ...

WNBA brawl 'Not the way we want to get attention'

If you haven't seen the video of this ladies basketball rumble in Detroit, watch it by clicking on the image below: Here's the story of the fight from PA SportsTicker: DETROIT -- A late-game brawl broke out Tuesday night in the Los Angeles Sparks’ 84-81 victory over the Detroit Shock at the Palace of Auburn Hills. After a made free throw by Los Angeles, Sparks rookie sensation Candace Parker and the Shock’s Plenette Pierson got tangled up and both fell to the floor. Pierson then charged Parker, who slung the Detroit center to the court, igniting the melee. Shock assistant coach Rick Mahorn came off ...
They’ve come a long way, baby

Well, women are proving they every bit the equal in sports when it comes to being bad sports. First, there is Danica Bratrick and her storming around IRL like she thinks she is A.J. Foyt in his prime. This week’s episdode with Milka Duno is fit No. 3. And then there was Tuesday night’s battle royale between the Detroit Shock and Los Angeles Sparks. The sad thing is that the WNBA will get more visibility out of the melee than anything else it does all year. They say any publicity is good publicity but not sure that is the case here for WNBA, which staged an outdoor game over the weekend that didn’t quite create the stir ...
