Gizmo4228 I have a feeling the guy running the ticker was a Lions fan-
Douglass C. Perry Yeah, just a little.
I find it amusing that they hired him to comment, and then, presumably, the same network ran this text scroll blasting him while he spoke. The text actually asks how credible he is as an NBC sports analyst.
I can tell you this: in San Francisco, 49er owner John York gets the same chilly reception in SF bars, restaurants, and other social places. With the exception of hiring Mike Singletary, he's done a piss poor job thus far, and as a fan, I feel the same way as that ticker tape dude.

Warning: Matt Millen About To Appear On Your TV
SPORTSbyBROOKS —
I didn’t watch that much of NBC’s pre-game coverage of the Super Bowl yesterday because frankly, the two weeks of build up to the game was enough for me. I didn’t need another five hours of hearing about how nobody expected the Cardinals to be there, or how Ben Roethlisberger was nervous during his first trip to the Super Bowl against the Seahawks a few years ago. That and I didn’t want to hear Tiki Barber say things like the Cardinals “are a team of density.” Matt Millen warning ...
I Now Have A Favorite NBC Affiliate Station
Tirico Suave —
And it’s NBC Channel 4 in Detroit, who ran this scroll on the bottom of the screen every time Matt Millen appeared on screen yesterday: In case you missed it: Matt Millen was president of the Lions for the worst eight-year run in the history of the NFL. Knowing his history with the team, is there a credibility issue as he now serves as an analyst for NBC Sports? Via the Detroit Free Press ...
Detroit Station Has Fun With Matt Millen
AwfulAnnouncing —
I thought Matt Millen did a fine job during NBC's broadcast, but that's not to say that some people are happy that he's employed anywhere. Take for example NBC affiliate, WDIV in Detroit, which decided that every time Millen appeared on the screen, a disclaimer was needed. From the Detroit Free-Press via Shutdown Corner.... Every time a certain familiar face showed up on camera Sunday during NBC's Super Bowl pregame show, Channel 4 ran a scroll at the bottom of the screen: "Matt Millen was president of the Lions for the worst eight-year run in the history of the NFL. Knowing his history with the ...
Detroit's Channel 4 Hasn't Forgiven Matt Millen for What He Did to Lions
FanHouse —
by Ryan Wilson Filed under: Lions, NFL Fans, NFL, Super Bowl I have to say, Matt Millen, television analyst, is much more likable than Matt Millen, president and general manager of an NFL franchise, and infinitely more competent. Maybe that's because there are no real consequences to sitting in front of a camera and making stuff up for a couple hours a week. Not until yesterday, anyhow. Detroit's Channel 4 Hasn't Forgiven Matt Millen for What He Did to Lions originally appeared on NFL FanHouse on Mon, 02 Feb 2009 17:00:00 EST . ...
Detroit Seriously Does Not Like Matt Millen
TheScore.com Blog —
I'd heard of this story from a couple of places today, but didn't post anything because it seemed kind of pointless without video-- which as you can see, we now have, thanks to Fanhouse. Scrolling on the ticker beneath Matt Millen's puffy and incompetent head every time he was on the screen, Detroit NBC affiliate WDIV wrote the following text: Matt Millen was president of the Lions for the worst eight-year run in the history of the NFL. Knowing his history with the team, is there a credibility issue as he now serves as an analyst for NBC Sports? I can imagine how ...

Just In Case They Forgot, Detroit’s WDIV Reminds Viewers Of Matt Millen’s Recent History
Can't Stop The Bleeding —
(video link swiped from Awful Announcing)
The participation of former Lions GM Matt Millen in NBC’s Super Bowl coverage has been criticized in some quarters, while praised in others. Who’d have predicted, however, that a Detroit NBC affiliate would knowingly question the parent network’s decision during Sunday’s broadcast? The Detroit Free Press’ Steven Schrager explains.
Every time a certain familiar face showed up on camera Sunday during NBC’s Super Bowl pregame show, Channel 4 ran a scroll at the bottom of ...

Detroit TV Station Rips Matt Millen in Bottom Line Scroll During Super Bowl
Larry Brown Sports —
The first second I saw that NBC had hired Matt Millen to provide in-studio analysis for the NFL playoffs, I was outraged. I questioned NBC’s sanity in placing a man who failed so miserably at his job of player analysis — GM of the Detroit Lions — into an “expert” role on TV. Well, apparently the NBC affiliate in Detroit wasn’t going to let the NBC Network nor Millen have the last word. Check out the scroll at the bottom of the screen while Millen spoke, as shown by Sports by Brooks:
You know ...
Detroit Station has Fun with Matt Millen
THESPORTINGMUSE.COM —
As we all know, Matt Millen appeared on the NBC Super Bowl XLIII broadcast this past Sunday as an analyst for the network. Apparently, not everyone was happy about it. Especially Detroit NBC affiliate,WDIV Channel 4. From the Detroit Free-Press via Shutdown Corner....
Every time a certain familiar face showed up on camera Sunday during NBC's Super Bowl pregame show, Channel 4 ran a scroll at the bottom of the screen:

WDIV News in Detroit is Still Bitter About Millen
InGameNow —
Since Matt Millen’s departure from the Lions’ front office, he picked up a side gig as an analyst for NBC.
As a fan of football, I’m in favor of this move–he ruins fewer teams in that role. Viewers watching the NBC affiliate in Detroit were treated to some extra commentary in their news ticker while Millen discussed the upcoming big game. Not like they’re bitter or anything: ...

Lions fans REALLY hate Matt Millen, serious hate
slowbreaker.com —
Lions fans REALLY hate Matt Millen, serious hate It is no shock that Lions fans hate Matt Millen. The man basically destroyed the once proud franchise. Throughout his tenure as GM, fans would show their rage with "Fire Millen" signs, masks over their faces to hide their identity as Lions fans, but it hit its final critical mass while he was covering the Super Bowl. It came out of nowhere, but it was genius. The guy controlling the bottom line completely destroyed Millen ...
Texans and the NFL Draft: Are we there yet?
TexansChick —
Texans GM Rick Smith on his draft thinking | Main April 24, 2009 Texans and the NFL Draft: Are we there yet? Sometimes I think the NFL draft is like Christmas. I love Christmas, but pretty much by the time Christmas rolls around, I couldn't be any more done with the pre-Christmas hype of shopping, specials, to-do lists, music played since before Halloween etc. Most of the pre-Christmas junk has nothing to do with Christmas. And now we are at the time of year where I'm pretty burnt on draft talk. There's little being talked about I haven't already heard five milliondy times already. The draft I love. Best year ever was when I was stuck ...
Inside the Mind of Rzayo24: Thanksgiving Edition
The Phinsider —
Yeah, yeah - I know - I'm sorry I've been busy! If it makes you feel better - I seriously considered dropping out of school for this site - figured I could live in the McDonald's play house and get free Wi-Fi. It feels good to be back - and it feels even better to be back to .500. The winning streak is sweet as hell - but the injuries are concerning. At this point I'm scared Matty might pull a hammy making his predictions post this week. Stay hydrated, Matthew.
First of all - I would like to wish everyone here at The Phinsider a Happy Thanksgiving!
