Videos: Godard finally solves Orr; Crosby's spinning backhand
Puck Daddy —
Eric Godard of the Pittsburgh Penguins has thrown down with many fellow pugilists in the NHL, but that pesky Colton Orr of the New York Rangers, for whatever reason, just owned him for the last few seasons going all the way back to their AHL days. Take their Jan. 5 fight from this season: Orr had more punches than a Hollywood Hogan match while Godard had a wardrobe malfunction. The tide finally turned last night, three seconds (!) into the teams' game in Pittsburgh. Godard finally landed some early punches, and then one that buckled Orr's knees. In the spirit of equal ...
Tales of the Tape: New York Rangers 1/28/09, Eric Godard vs. Colton Orr
PensBurgh —
During the last meeting between the Rangers and the Pens, Eric Godard apparently brought up the prospect of fighting Colton Orr and was shot down. The Penguin nation was looking towards this game with the hope that Orr and Godard drop the gloves. We were not disappointed.
If you see Eric Godard on the ice for the opening draw, it's pretty much a given that he's going to be fighting and quickly. Three seconds in and Orr and Godard were trading swings. Godard got a couple swings in and some quick jabs (a technique he seems to like) before dodging several of ...
Have the Penguins Learned How to Finish An Opponent?
HockeyBuzz.com: Brian Metzer —
The Penguins did something last night that they have not done very much of this season. They staggered an opponent with a couple quick third period goals, but kept coming and found a way to get the knock out punch. This team has blown many leads throughout the year, many times because they just couldn't seem to get a fourth or fifth goal to finish an opponent off. Thus allowing the door to remain open for said opponent to run on through. That changed last night and I hope that it is a sign of what is to come in the second half as the Penguins battle to secure a playoff spot. The game against the Rangers was an interesting one, in that the Penguins and ...

Empty Netters —
For Penguins fans, the 2008-09 season was quite unlike anything they've ever seen. There were sicking lows and highs that future teams will never hope to outdo. It was a dazzling roller coaster that took place over parts of nine months.
This is a game-by-game look at all 106 contests the Penguins suited up for this season.

Maple Leafs sign Orr - 7-1-09
Empty Netters —
This would've been a stunning headline 35 years ago.
In a move fitting of Brian Burke, the Maple Leafs have signed former Rangers goon Colton Orr according to TSN's Bob McKenzie. The deal is for four years at $1 million per season.
EN Says: It's a nice move for the Maple Leafs. They haven't had a true tough guy - a vital commodity on any Brian Burke team - for a season and a half. And Orr's one of the best enforcers in the league in the standpoint that he'll fight anyone. He's one of the few guys in the league who will willingly go with Big Georges Laraque in Montreal.
We will miss seeing Orr go with Penguins ...
