TUF 9 postfight: Sanchez talks about the second best fight of the weekend

What a weekend for fans of mixed martial arts. The Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale was loaded with great fights, so much so that the UFC handed out three Fight of the Night awards. The Diego Sanchez-Clay Guida war was at the top of the list on Saturday night. Cagewriter scored it 29-27 giving Sanchez a 10-8 first round and a 10-9 final round. Guida deserves a ton of credit for withstanding a ton of damage in that opening round. For me, the fight of the weekend was Jorge Gurgel and Conor Heun at Strikeforce on Friday night. The two were like rams meeting every 15 seconds in the middle cage slugging away each other. ...

I was finally able to watch the Jorge Gurgel Conor Heun fight from Friday's Strikeforce Challenger series and it lived up to the hype. Both fighters engaged in a war that was unfortunately overshadowed by Diego Sanchez and Clay Guida. Comparing these two fights is hard, Guida and Sanchez had a healthy dose of UFC hype behind it where as Gurgel-Heun wasn't the main event of the Strikeforce show. Besides watching any sporting event live is much better than on youtube three days later.
Gurgel and Heun didn't start out like rapid badgers but the two Strikeforce fighters kept a higher pace into the later rounds. Watch it ...
