Good night: High sticks are legal if you’re Sid Crosby
The Two-Line Pass — The Lead Forget all the dickpunching and whining and diving for which Sidney Crosby’s been called out lately. It’s become quite clear that the guy plays with a different rulebook than most other NHL players, and that’s just one of those things you have to accept as a fact of life. It’s the same reason elite pitchers get strike zones you could drive a truck through and NBA defenses couldn’t properly cover Michael Jordan. So when Crosby reached out and poked at an Evgeni Malkin knuckleball that was dangerously close to being a high stick and scored the against Buffalo in overtime to win 4-3, was there any ...

Pass or Fail: Sidney Crosby's nearly high-stick OT game-winner
Puck Daddy — Frankly, we're a little Crosby'd out after yesterday; but based on the volume of mail in our inbox this morning, this goal against the Buffalo Sabres in overtime last night merits some attention. The Pittsburgh Penguins were storming the zone when Alex Goligoski (who had another outstanding game) sent the puck to Evgeni Malkin for a solid one-timer (if you're Phil Niekro). His shot was deflected in by Sidney Crosby in front, and immediately the Sabres called for a replay review as Crosby's stick was close to being above the crossbar. The crisp NHL.com video of the goal is here. But this ...

The question though was, did Crosby commit a high stick penalty in the process? Well, let's take a look. In all honesty, it's quite difficult to tell. It LOOKS like Sid's stick may have gone over the crossbar. And if you look at this screen pic here off to the right, ...
